This happens on a regular basis in Chicago.

Always make sure you shut off your car, and take the keys with you when you're fueling at a gas station. If you leave your car running, it's way too easy for someone to jump in and drive off with it while you're re-fueling.

Especially if you have a car where you need to walk around to the right side to get to the gas tank.
