vegas is now home

One more thing taken away from the Mid-Atlantic/Northeast region.

Why don't they just take all 6 races (if you count Pocono) from us and ship them off to the left coast as well?

You know there are people on the west coast that like nascar as well. And Vegas has been very good to nascar i cant say as much for Fontana. Perhaps maybe they should hold the event at your house then maybe you would be happy.

I would be willing to bet that the fans will be involved at a much higher level. I think the move was a great idea. Vegas has a lot more to offer than New York.

Bringing equipment into NYC for the banquet was always a Class A pain in the ass and was only appreciated by a very small segment of the population.

I am happy they moved it to Vegas. A lot more friendlier to racing and a lot easier getting around and certainly cheaper with hotel rooms.

I would rather make the 3 day haul to Vegas rather than the one day to NYC an day!

Let Bloomberg find some other saps to ravish with his taxes and tolls.

Did you ever attend the banquet?

Were the fans of the Northeast allowed to attend? I don't think so. but I'll bet there will be lots of fan friendly events during the week in Vegas so this is a much better venue.
NYC didn't want the NASCAR Guys there, you know it and the rest of us know it.

Which is why the race NASCAR took from Rockingham and moved to the left coast has been a complete failure the past 5 years.

Fontana has better transportation to and from the track (Rockingham has a one lane highway), much more to do (It's LA, need I say more), more parking, much higher population, more amenities, etc. Yet they can only bring in 10,000 more people than Rockingham could have.

I'm fine with the banquet move -- but Las Vegas shouldn't get a second Cup date if it does move.

I'd personally like to see them have the banquet at the Hall of Fame (when it's built) in Charlotte.

i think i read that the idea is open to public admission?

As i said Fontana is an acception. The two major marketing area's in America are New York and Los Angeles. Niether one of the two have acted like they care if Nascar is there or not. So why not move it to Las Vegas? Vegas has no football team, no baseball, no other professional sport. Las Vegas is the fastest growing city in the US and they been begging for sports events for a long time. So if nascar wants to grant them the banquet or even gives them one of Fontana's races i have no problem with that.

Don't know how many of you have seen the old TV version of the banquet when it wasn't a televised product. ESPN used to have a spot up in the upper balcony and they would show the banquet as it really was. We would miss a lot of stuff, but that was fine. When it came to the important stuff, ESPN would stay the course and we watched as T. Wayne Robertson would present the checks to the top drivers. If NASCAR continues to do what they have done in the past with their "televised" show, I probably won't watch no matter where its held. But, I think that NASCAR will be better suited to have the banquet there in Vegas and I do believe the participants will enjoy it much more. Besides, those NYCer's probably think about as much of NASCAR as does one of our newest members, Bigdaddy.

I agree with buck, I don't care for the big production, just show some racing clips and driver communication and give out the checks. From 3 hours to an hour and fine with me.

You are so right, buck --- it once was an enjoyable show to watch.

Now, the drivers all have the "deer in the headlights" look -- as if they have no clue what is going on.

All award shows are over the top way too much, that's why i never watch them, what is the point in watching the Cup banquet anyway....we already know who won.....lol.:D

True, Mopardh, but the show was fun. You never knew what would happen --- like Tony showing up in the Hutchens device --- or Jeff toasting Dale with a glass of milk.

Now, it's just good little boys reading the teleprompter.

A one hour show would be great. Since NASCAR moved the banquet to Vegas does this mean it will start at midnight now?

I don't care where they have it or how long it lasts just as long as Jeff Gordon gets the BIG TROPHY. LOL:D

Yeah and Tony with his new camera that year he was in trouble over shoving the photographers.

I would love to see Jeff win another one. Don't get me wrong but I have grown a little tired of JJ winning every year. What would even make me happier is to see Tony win another one... The tracks are starting to warm up and get a little slippery and you all know what that means. :beerbang:

Probably, and it would probably stay on ESPN Classic.

I think SPEED or TNT should air the banquet since ESPN has shown over the course of the past 2 years that they don't give a flying **** about the sport.

Yep good point

I totally agree with you there on JJ. If he wins again, I'll be sick. I'd love to see Tony win again too, but Jeff first. I think he's older than Tony and if they hadn't but that cheap championship of the CHASE in place, Jeff would already have another one and probably 2. I'd LOVE to see Tony on a dirt track! I tried to get my husband interested in going to Eldora last year, but no go. Tony's on the verge of winning and it won't be long now.

This 48 fan is very torn, I would like to see JJ create history but I also think Jeff deserves that 5th trophy and he doesn't have too many years left to do it. I definitely want him to pass DW in wins.
As far as the banquet goes, I'll watch it but you have to admit Tony and Kevin may be funny and JJ is getting better, Jeff is the one that doesn't look like he is reading the prompter. :growl:

Let me let you in on a little secret. Jeff can't read!

J/K :D The reason he doesn't need the teleprompter..... He has been there so many times he could do it in his sleep...

Tony always cracks me up, esp. when other people think he's being a jerk. LOL Kevin can be pretty funny if he isn't trying to act tough and kick someones butt, although then I tend to laugh at him and not with him, so I guess he is funny overall. heh heh

Jeff has done a lot of TV. I'm sure he's one of the post comfortable people in front of the camera. He can probably do TV and own a team when he decides to retire.

GOOD SAVE Smoke14. LOL My brother makes fun of Tony saying he started racing NASCAR and all of a sudden sounded like a country bumpkin. Of course, my husband and I totally disagree. My brother's an open-wheel snob anyway. LOL He was quite distressed that my favorite racing was NASCAR.. oops, sorry bro! :D Funny thing about him though is, he'll pick up stickers and other things NASCAR and he'll call me when someone/something NASCAR is on TV other than reg. races which he knows I'm watching. :)
