This is a very interesting article. I'm not sure why the link says "my webpage", but oh well.

This is the very thing that outrages me most. Congress has put themselves above the American people. They are NOT one of us. Years ago they voted themselves their own retirement package. When they retire, they continue to receive the same salary. Where we pay into social security and collect squat if it still exists. If the majority of the American people knew this and refused to pay taxes, or stood up for it somehow, and demanded that they quit raping us, we could get them to listen to us. I believe they also continue to receive full health benefits which are unrivaled. They continue to rip us off and try to act as if they are one of us. They will never listen to the people because they are in control and we keep voting the same A-Holes to run our country into the ground. They don't care, they are all set for life. The middle class is disappearing and unless you are one of the wealthy, you will be one of the peasants.

Thanks for the article. A very interesting read.

The military family part struck home with me. I am glad that there are people out there stating that military men and women who do have families are getting screwed over. Everyone here is always commenting on the fancy cars coming out of the Air Force base, which are owned by the single military members. Not families. I often get defensive on this topic.

I come from a military family and at one point we had to get help from the Salvation Army and could have gone on food stamps during the whole time my dad was in because he never made it to officer level. Military families are poor and it is so disgraceful that Congress can give themselves a raise anytime they want to and then not give a damn about the men and women fighting for our country in terms of giving them a pay raise.

My dad doesn't get a big pension and he fought in the Gulf War and other conflicts. He was there on the front lines and while he got combat pay, it didn't make up for the lousy pay. I mean no disrespect to the 9/11 victims, their families deserve compensation, but the author brings up so many valid points, imo knowing many military families who get help and deserve more money because those in the military risk their lives.

Anyways that is my two cents. I would vote for a military pay raise and be willing to pay the extra taxes to make it happen.

Outragous, isn't? The military part is interesting, but it's the part about the congresspeople that angers me the most. They're getting paid far more money than doctors, teachers, servicemen, and the whole bit, to do what? Pass stupid laws and do almost the opposite of everything that they campaign for. And not paying into Social Security? Maybe if they did, it wouldn't be in such bad shape, what with all the money that would flow in. The thing that bites me the most, though, is that these are the same people who claim to want to reduce gov't spending and eliminate the deficit, yet they manage to justify these exorborant salaries, pay raises, and retirement benifits in a time of record budget deficits and economic suckitude. It just sickens me, how corrupt the gov't has become.

I understand some of the victims family members needing some financial assistance since the victims income is now missing. But, I guess I just don't get the idea of giving them an average of over $1.7 million each. That just seems rediculous.

What about the wife who's husband just left a $50,000 a year job to go fight in the Gulf? Who's gonna help her? What about the wife who's husband just left her with two kids to raise? Haven't seen any fund to help her out.

Crap pisses me off beyond reproach.

Another thing that pisses me off.....you can be 18, 19, 20 years old.....carry an M-16....drive a tank.....have 20 men under you.......fire a shoulder-fired weapon that can destroy a tank, plane, or kill alotta people....

but you can't buy a beer.

OK, that last part was a joke...........sort of.

Military people have always lived on the brink of poverty since there was a military. It makes me sick how these poor, unfortunate congressmen and women and senators can say "Hey, I need a raise......all in favor..say Aye!"

I think people need to keep in mind that many, including myself, made donations after 9-11. Not to discount charity drives and such. BIG money was donated then distributed to the families who lost loved ones.
