    Hey guys.

The other day a friend of mine was asking me why Nascar only congratulates/praises/gives importance to the winner/1st place of the race and not to the second and third places as other racing series do.

I really didn´t know what to answer!

Can anyone hook me up on this?

    Thanks a lot!

    Cause if you're not're last:cool:

Actually, most only celebrate the winner, I can only think of a few that do Podium's for 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Which I don't get. Why celebrate losing?

Other than tradition, I cant think of any other reasons.
Well on second thought in the early days most racing was on short tracks and things were simpler or less elaborate.

F1 has the podium, it is more glitzy/glamarous/gentlemens racing. You have less heated or contested last laps. Victory lane with 3 cup poduim finishers would be to tense.
I like the cup victory lane, the only thing needed is skimply dressed hawt hottie trophy queens

We do overemphasize winning . Case in point Mark Martin , 40 wins and runner up in an incredible five championships . The knock on Mark is he hasn't won a championship.

F1 has the podium because nobody passes anybody so they don't really know who the winner is.

Because 2nd is just the 1st loser. At least I believe I've heard some drivers say that. Besides after some side by side banging in some rare finishes you wouldn't want some of these guys to be standing next to each other on a podium.

That´s what I like about Nascar, the not-glamorous thing. I do like other racing series, but I kinda dislike all the fashion and glamour of other series.

Since F1 racing came out of the Grand Prix racing of the 20s and 30s, I think they recognized 2nd and 3rd place winners on the podium for the same reason they give out silver and bronze medals at the Olympics.

F1 podiums can be tense at times. Malaysia anyone?

Although there have been plenty of races where I would have paid money to see the top 3 trying to play nice on a podium after beatin' and bangin'.

Exactly. That was my first thought when I read Greg's post too.

They're trying to make Miss Sprint Cup be a more modern woman. No bikini and they even said somewhere that they aren't allowed to peck the winning driver on the cheek like the old Miss Winston Cup would.

I doubt any driver in Cup wants to celebrate a second place finish anyway.

I think they need miss Nextel, Sprint, Verizon, and all the rest of those walkie talkie hawkers to have a cage mud match after the race. Couldn't be and goofier than having what they have...grin really, I am really happy for the winner...grin pay me
