Sorry this is patched together, but I didn't want to drag Fury's server down with half a gig of pics and video.

First, apologies for the camera work on the videos. It's 15x zoom, and I kept taking my eyes off the screen to watch the race. Then my little pocket cam over heated from the 90 degree temps after I left it sitting on the bench. The auto focus took a hit and never really recovered. I missed some great side by side racing because of that.

Here are some pics and a video or 2 of the qualifying races, which tended to be run away affairs until the last one. You'll need to manually click the sound button the first time you view a video. Just click the first pic to start the slide show, which will take you thru the images and videos in the proper order.

4 Qualifying races.

Peyton Sellers had some trouble in his Q-heat and had to get in via the last chance race, which was damn wild.

Last Chance.

Sellers had more trouble and is out of the main, but it seems he jumps in the 7 car and has a decent run.

Take a break and visit Gregs corner for some Martinsville scenery. Start with the picture of Andy delivering some Martinsville hot dogs to his secret stash. ;)

The main was insane. It had everything. Tremendous side by side, door slamming, bump and runs all over the place, and even a dive bombing bone head. I really paid the price for burning up the camera on a 70 to go restart and couldn't capture the 20 lap side by side battle between Pulliam leading in the #1 and Waltz in the #2. All that Hoosier rubber on the track made all the difference.

The camera wakes again and I get some decent shots of those 2 continuing the battle as the 44 of Bassett plows his way to the front. He was definitely fastest at the end, and had run out of patience.

Insane Main.

Damn, Bassett just goes nuts after he loses 2nd back to Pulliam and just wrecks him. It was too dark to get video of the 1st GWC where McCaskill in the 08 dive bombs Waltz and takes him out. The guy battled all night and drove a smart race. Sucks he got done that way, but word in the stands is he did much the same thing 2 years ago.

Lemons Jr blew right by the leader Bassett on the restart and beats him to the line by 3 car lengths. It seemed like Setzer had Bassett jacked up, and that got Tommy the win. It's a good thing there weren't any guns around after this wild race.

Johali, DPK, Groundpounder and all the rest who say there is no such thing as a bad race, I get it. It's a freaking spectacle with the sound and the ground shaking. Add in the smell of burnt rubber and the fans screaming and the experience was awesome. Now I MUST move to raceville. :)

Dillon didn't go. His spotter was screaming at him over the radio to go and he didn't. It was probably the carbon monoxide poisoning. After the race, he was transported to a nearby hospital while thinking he had won the race.

Actually, Deac wrecked Lee. Waltz had a tire go down and that was a shame because the upset of the century was in progress.

Lee Pulliam was going to get wrecked. Deac just beat Dillon to the honors. And yes, Lee took Matt McCall out two years ago to win. The place ERUPTED in cheers when Lee was wrecked out. There were some real upsets all weekend. Lemons (SNMP, Caraway, Motor Mile) winning. Chad Finchum (Kingsport champ) winning the pole. Matt Waltz (Langley) having a dominant performance. Ryan Stiltner (Lonesome Pine champ) finishing fifth.

This race had it all.

Wow, I hope Bassett recovers fully.

Waltz had a tire go down in the middle of turn 3 where Bassett dumped him into the wall? It looked like pure take out, especially they way Bassett was driving most of the race after he had a tire go down.

If you watch the last video in the main folder, it looks like he just gets taken out entering turn 3.

Dillon's fine - he's actually still upset that they didn't award him the win when Tommy jumped the restart... don't blame him one bit either. I think he'd have a case if he had went at the restart line but he didn't. Like I said, his crew was hollering at him to go and he never got going. I couldn't see the flagstand because it was so dark and, to make it worse, the press box has tinted windows.

They said in the driver's meeting that you're not supposed to beat the leader to the start/finish line but they also said that the flagman starts/restarts the race and if the leader doesn't go, oh well. Confusing, just like NASCAR's restart rules. You can't see the flagstand from the video but I wonder if the flagman threw the green flag and Dillon just didn't go.

All day everyone was getting on the gas coming out of 4, then the flag waved as a formality. From your video it looks like the 2 cars on the outside do go well before everyone else.

Dillon never went and he wasn't going to either. That dude was pretty damn close to passed out. It was a good no-call. I doubt the result would've been different if Dillon had beat Tommy to the line.

I agree. It was late and that was the last restart for sure. Hell of a race.

Glad you enjoyed it. You should come down more often and watch some real races.

Soon I wont need to come down at all. I'll probably move to the Raleigh area in a couple of months. Probably the worst place in NC to live, but the best job market. From there I can take the time to get some property near or in the mountains.

Do you have an article up at race22?

As for Dillon, I'll put it this way - he was so disoriented that he fell off his roof when celebrating, shouted "we ****** won Martinsville" and passed out.

Nice write up Andy. We knew that one wouldn't end without some controversy. The downside is that the cup race can't come close to that level of racing. You just don't see side by side at Martinsville in those cars riding on those tires.
