IMCA open-wheel modifieds 'possibly' at Volunteer Speedway in 2008
BULLS GAP, Tenn. — Volunteer Speedway is looking to hear from competitors to gauge interest regarding the track running open-wheel modifieds in 2008 under IMCA sanctioning/rules. In talking with IMCA, at least for the 2008 racing season they are willing to work with "The Gap" and allow any UMP-legal chassis to compete. However, the rules the class will follow will be strictly IMCA, thus meaning quick-change rearends will not be permitted. Otherwise, really any UMP-legal open-wheel modified in the East Tennessee region would be able to race.

We (track) need to hear from open-wheel modified competitors by February 10 in order to make the decision whether to attempt to revive open-wheel modified racing at Volunteer Speedway.

Please contact Phyllis Loven in the track office at (423) 378-5942 or on her cell phone at (423) 676-9081, or Media/Public Relations Director Robert Walden at (423) 928-9644 to let them know if you're interested in running IMCA sanctioned open-wheel modifieds in 2008. The deadline for the track hearing from competitors is February 10

BULLS GAP, Tenn. — After hearing from competitors gauging their interest regarding Volunteer Speedway running open-wheel modifieds in 2008, under International Motor Contest Association (IMCA) sanctioning/rules ... the decision has been made. "The Gap" will be bringing back open-wheel modified racing in 2008.

In talking with IMCA, at least for the 2008 racing season they are willing to work with Volunteer Speedway and the competitors' to allow any UMP-legal chassis to compete. However, the rules the class will follow will be strictly IMCA, thus meaning quick-change rearends will not be permitted. Otherwise, really any UMP-legal open-wheel modified in the East Tennessee region would be able to race. Also, the sanctioning body is going to work with race teams regarding engine rules for 2008. The class will run IMCA-legal tires (one-compound), too.

Stay tuned here on the Web site for more information to be released regarding the IMCA-sanctioned open-wheel modifieds. But all East Tennessee (plus neighboring states of North Carolina and Kentucky) race teams, be preparing for your return to racing at Volunteer Speedway. It's very important that race teams show up in good numbers to support the decision to revive open-wheel modified racing at "The Gap."

***Note: In order to give all regional racers time to get their race cars ready, the first race night for the IMCA open-wheel modifieds will be the first Saturday night in April.

To learn more about IMCA, visit their official Web site at http://www.imca.com/ and look in the open-wheel modified section.
