I guess they've made it official. Any predictions?

Officials of Rusty Wallace Racing (RWR) announced today that 23 year-old Steve Wallace will make his NASCAR Sprint Cup Series debut in February's 53rd annual running of NASCAR's most prestigious event, the Daytona 500. Wallace will pilot the No. 77 Toyota Camry for RWR at Daytona, with backing from longtime sponsor 5-Hour Energy and new partner Aspen Dental.

He'll be in a back up to the back up and still crash before the 25th lap.
:beerbang:

I tend to agree that Steve might be getting in way over his head at daytona. Yeah, he'll probably give the body shop some addition work.

BUT,... If I remember correctly both Jeffie Pooh and Smoke were known to tear up some machinery in BGN when they made the move. Who knows? Maybe he'll do OK (but I doubt it)?

I'm sure Steve isn't the only one going to a backup to the backup car:growl:

Your right, because it's almost a gaurantee that he'll take a few cars with him each time he wrecks. Thats a given, if the draft is going to be as tight as everyone thinks it'll be.

Relax. How bad could it possibly be? :D

I'm thinking something like this.........

I dug through the Wallace archives and found this video of grand pappy Wallace making his Daytona debut. Let's just hope we don't see a repeat. Fast forward to the 1:56 mark.

OK, OK, I know I may have misled some but you get the idea. Awesome video none the less.

Yeah...Wallace causes a wreck....expected...BUT THERE are plenty of VERTEANS that cause wrecks at Daytona and 'Dega.

That coverage sucked. They went to a commercial just before the big one and did not explain what happened when they came back live. Can you believe they only had two freakin cameras running.

Those cars didn't look like anything we can buy off the show room today. GEESH.

EPMS's coverage simply sucks...

:D

Oh boy, I guess there are already a bunch of Stephen haters. :) So what else is new? Seems that there are plenty of people who believe that a rookie can cause big wrecks. I remember almost 10 years ago, I was at a race that took the life of one of the biggest, if not the biggest star of NASCAR and who caused it? Well there are many opinions on this ranging from the old boy himself to another veteran who ran into him. In either case, rookies were not involved.

So predicting when somebody will bring out the yellow flag or what number back up car he will be on is being a hater? Good to know.

I used the word "hater" the same way others here on this forum use it. If you don't like someone, driver or whatever, you are a hater.

This sport to me is the most emotional sport in America, probably because for everyone's favorite, there are 42 other teams that are competing against them each and every week. But I have seen real hatred in this sport that brought about violence. Yes, that happens in every sport, so it isn't unusual that hatred is part of NASCAR.

But seriously, do you hate little Steve?

So if others on this forum jumped off a bridge I guess it's safe to say you would too??????????????

No I don't.Just making a prediction of off his past experience.

Little Wallace once wrecked in the garage area. He didn't even make it on the track.

yeah that was at daytona too. The crew backed off his brake pads to make a mock qualifying run. When you do that you gotta pump the brakes a bit to get the pads back on the rotors to slow you down. He went flying threw the garage forgot about the brakes. The pedal went to the floor and he went into a pole. It could happen to anybody though ;)

Veteran drivers have proven that they belong in the Daytona 500.

The only thing Steven Wallace has ever shown is that he doesn't even belong in the Nationwide series.

Another driver with far more resources than talent who, if nothing else, keeps the fab shop guys employed...welcome to the new Nascar ;)

Wallace earned his detractors with his NWS performances and long before he decided to run Daytona.

But I'm sure he'll have more than enough who love him to make up for those that hate him...hell, at least we're talking about him.

As for that other thing...anyone with half a brain can see what took place in the closing laps of that race.

If he'll be kind enough to put Kyle in the wall, I guess I can stomach Steve for the day. But damn it, he's gotta hold up his end of the deal...:D

Just have to throw this out there, but Steve Wallace, in the past three years, has finished 14th, 7th and 10th in the NNS points.

Just sayin.':D

As much as it's tempting to dog him, you can't really blame the driver for speed at Daytona. He'll take enough heat in the draft, more than enough to make up for his cars short comings...
MoMike

I can assure you Stephen you're only there because your father is Rusty Wallace. Stop being a jerk....

The program was facilitated by fellow team owner Roger Penske, who formed a partnership with Steve's father Rusty Wallace -- who drove in Cup for Penske from 1991 until he retired as a driver after the 2005 season -- in order to use the guaranteed spot in the top 35 of the owners' standings earned by Penske driver Sam Hornish Jr. in 2010.

RWR purchased a pair of Sprint Cup Chevrolets -- one from Richard Childress Racing and one that was used last season by Earnhardt Ganassi Racing -- and has converted them to Toyotas.

So Rusty partners with Penske(a multi-car DODGE team owner) to run Toyotas?????????

Not a Steve Wallace fan, but he does have a better resume than most.

Two top-ten finishes in Nationwide points where the top drivers are all Cup regulars, and he's a former winner of the Snowball Derby.

Congrats to Steve Wallace. I wouldn't have thought that he'd find a friend out there on Sunday but I sure was wrong. I fully expected him to make a dumb move and be in the running for the bonehead award. Finished 20th on the lead lap and took home a cool $291,000.00 +
