Want to feel old?

One of the first times I felt really old was, a couple of years ago, when I was talking to some really young kids (8-10 yrs) about music and I mentioned the Beattles. One of them said with a straight face and as sincere as a preacher, "The Beattles...? I've heard my grandparents talk about them."

*sigh*

No, "Old People's Music" is what you used to hear on TWC (The Weather Channel) when they showed the local weather. I always called TWC "MTV for the Aged.":)

Is the stuff they've passed off for music written after the 70's actually music?

I have a basic rule of thumb when it comes to the ordering of tones and sounds to produce a pleasing composition; If you can't whistle or hum it, IT AIN'T MUSIC!

My mother, God rest her soul, once said that the Beatles would never last. She really never cared much for rock n roll, but before she died (1975) I nearly fell over when she told me that she loved Emerson, Lake and Palmer.

I graduated high school in 1985. All my friends teased me saying I listened to the "golden oldies" even back then. The Beatles was one of my favorites back then. Anyone know Ringo's Shaving Cream song? I remember taking that 45 to school for music class in 6th grade. Cracked everyone up. My daughter is 18 in a few weeks. She knows who Ringo is!!! She likes the Beatles too.

My 18 year old daughter likes the beatles too. I got her to listen to some, but 9and I almost hate to say this), but there was a movie musical called "across the uniiverse" a couple years ago, and it really brought a lot of Beatles songs to her attention.

I have to give credit to my daughter's music teacher in elementary school for her interest in the Beatles. My Beatles are albums and the record player broke when my daughter was little, so I did not listen to the Beatles much when she was little. I was surprised that she not only knew the Beatles but also liked them. That music teacher was an incredible teacher though. She even got the kids into Beethoven just by telling funny stories like how he used to paint on the walls in his underware. Cracked me up when she was 8 yrs old and told me this. But the teacher found a unique teaching method that worked. She has loved all genres of music ever since then. I wish all teachers were like that.
