We recently had an officer shot and killed in the line of duty and another shot in the face and is in serious condition in the north east Ohio region. The man that Killed the officer also killed his girlfriend and was shot and killed on the spot. The other man, who wrestled a gun away from the officer and shot him was also killed. Now I know the to families are grieving but friends and or family members from both famlies have threatened to get even with the police. I hope this stops right now.

what are these people thinking? they need to look at the things that were going on and admit they dont have any right to thionk like that

Police officers risk their lives every day to keep the citizens safe. We bitch about them sometimes, we crack jokes, but I honestly believe and sincerely hope that we all respect them, appreciate what they do, and would defend them if needed. Certain elements of our society - I won't name names we all know who they are - have a persecution complex. They feel that any action they decide to undertake is justified because of real and perceived wrongs committed against them (maybe even not them personally). This has got to stop. I don't know if another variable is involved in this case or not. It doesn't matter. People with a blatant disregard for law, order, life, and society's rules, WHETHER YOU PERSONALLY AGREE WITH EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM OR NOT, have no place on my streets. We have buildings with bars on the windows for them. Overcrowded? Build more. Make prison a severely unpleasant place. Face it, once a person crosses the line into a lawless deed, they forfeit their "basic human rights" so many wanna whine about. Once the crime is committed, I think they should have the rights afforded to them as to fair trial and all that. After convicted, especially of more serious crimes, they have the right to utilize oxygen and the right to occupy space. Anything else is a gift. We as Americans treat our prisoners better than we treat our soldiers. Tell me THAT ain't out of whack.

Gee, am I ranting again?

I will shed no tears for the persons responsible for killing a cop. If anything, it's a shame they lived long enough to do it.

We had an officer, John Dinapoli, killed here back in 99. It made pretty big headlines across the nation.

He was killed 3 days before Christmas out in the street. Eddie Moralez walked up to his unmarked car and emptied his 9mm into Dinapoli's face. Moralez was arrested in Scranton, Pa. What was weird was that another cop killer fled to and was arrested in the very same town in PA.

Must be a gang headquarters in Scranton.

You can bet that the police will be watching every little move these people make. As soon as they step out of line, they will be locked up.

These people aren't worth the waste of bullets to kill them. Just beat the hell out of them in the middle of town and televise it....Maybe that will open some eyes.

What's really shameful here, is the police have been criticized for shooting too many bad guys! The local fringe element have been raising cane about the number of shootings.

My brother was an officer on the streets at night for 20+ years. I worried about him every night. My hubby was a reserve deputy with the county for 22 years --- didn't get paid for putting his life on the line 15 days a month.

This is another reason why other countries look at us as animals,And rightly so.We should be cleaning our own house with a little more urgency. An officer of the law is a walking target every hour he is on duty, and sometimes when he is off.My hat goes off to these brave men,and women,They have every bit of respect from me that they so deserve. The Courts have to finish there cleaning job a little better, and stop undoing there efforts. And you are right TnWard,We take better care of prisoners than we do our service men.Screw these crooks.kill a killer, and steal the rights from a crook,And while were at it lets get rid of a few lawyers, and turn them into cops. Then they would not be so eager to get a crook off on a two bit technicality.

if you do that then ppl will be be mad at the cops no mater what the ppl did to the cops.

And people wonder why many in this country are quietly arming themselves. Police can't do their jobs because the bleeding hearts are all over them......the jerk offs see that as a weakness and blatantly stalk and kill them. If things don't change soon, it's going to get real ugly. Something must be done with the "inablers".........lawyers, judges, media, etc.

The guy that killed the Massilon cop he is refering to had just come from a meeting where he taught some kind of "Constitutional Study Group". They claim that cops don't have the right to stop you for traffic violations and don't have the right to ask you for identification.

I fear that it may be too late. Political correctness is the scourge of this nation. Oppression leads to reform leads to entitlement leads to dependence leads to resentment. Not a whole lot of good can come from that scenario.

And in 2002, it's almost considered cool to be an a**hole. "Screw George Bush! I've got to get paid." Man, I've seen people laugh at people who've been slaughtered. This is not a friendly world we live in. Not that it ever was.

As sick as it may sound, September 11th may have saved us. When something like that happens, priorities are swiftly put back in order. I'm hoping that selflessness will continue to be more of a priority in American life, and that life itself will be considered more valuable than it presently is. I don't expect too much, though.

I agree with ya here Abooja, but it still seems after a little while, a lot of people go back to the way they were before. After 9-11, it was amazing the respect that people got for police officers in the county that I worked. After a while, it went back to the same 'ol "Why are you harrassing me?" or some other typical comment.

Its only going to get worse before it gets better......

A friend of mine just sent this...

This is taken from a "Community Policing" question and answer via e-mail forum in California:

The question is:

"I would like to know how it is possible for police officers to harass people and get away with it? And where can you go for help other than a civil attorney?"

And the reply from a really cool cop was:

"It is not easy. In California we average one cop for every 2000 people. About 60% of those cops are on patrol, where we do most of the harassing. One-fifth of that 60% are on duty at any moment and available for harassing people. So, one cop is responsible to harass about 10,000 residents. When you toss in the commercial, business, and tourist locations that attract people from other areas, sometimes you have a situation where a single cop is responsible to harass 20k or more people a day. A ten-hour shift runs 36,000 seconds. This gives a cop one second to harass a person, and three-fourths of a second to eat a donut AND find a new person to harass.

This is not an easy task. Most cops are not up to it day in and day out. It is just too tiring. What we do is utilize some tools to help us narrow down those which we harass. They are as follows:

PHONE: People will call us up and point out things that cause us to focus on a person for special harassment. "My neighbor is beating his wife" is a code phrase we use. Then we come out and give special harassment.

Another popular one on a week night is, "The kids next door are having a party".

CARS: We have special cops assigned to harass people who drive.

They like to harass the drivers of fast cars, cars blasting music, cars with expired registration tabs, and the like. It is lots of fun when you pick them out of traffic for nothing more obvious than running a red light.

Sometimes you get to really heap the harassment on when you find they have drugs in the car, are drunk, or have a warrant.

RUNNERS: Some people take off running just at the sight of a police officer. Nothing is quite as satisfying as running after them like a beagle on the scent of a bunny. When you catch them you can harass them for hours.

CODES: When you can think of nothing else to do, there are books that give ideas for reasons to harass folks. They are called Codes. Penal, Vehicle, Health and Safety, Business and Professions... They all spell out all sorts of things for which you can really mess with people.

After you read the code, you can just drive around for a while until you find someone violating one of these listed offenses and harass them.

Just last week I saw a guy smash a car window. Well, the code says that is not allowed. That meant I got to harass this guy.

It is a pretty cool system that we have set up, and it works pretty well. We seem to have a never-ending supply of folks to harass. And we get away with it because the good citizens who pay the tab like that we keep the streets safe for them.

Next time you are in my town, give me a single finger wave. That is a signal that you wish for me to take a little closer look at you, and maybe find a reason to harass you.

Looking forward to meeting you."

There are actually a few people up here who are trying to make this cop-killer out to be some kind of hero for being willing to die for his beliefs. Some hero, he shot a cop in the back and killed a father of 3 who was trying to do some good in this world. I just don't understand some people's idea of logic.

Well, I for one am more than willing to let him die for his beliefs.

well thats a shame in a few ways. For one it is always sad to hear of a policeman dying in the line of duty and i am sure seeing your friend get shot in the face would infuriate anyone so i can see why the cops shot and killed thoes men but the families need to understand that if you are threatening a cop with a gun he will shoot to kill and had every right to. thats my opinion and thank god for our poilice, fire and army.
