I just read on Nascar.com that Ward has been fined $5,000 for the shoe protector incident at Bristol.

Took them long enough and Personally I don't think it was warrented.

Probably if Ward had not walked out onto the racetrack to throw the heat shields at Jr. he probably would not have been fined. Also, if Ward had not said he "wished he had something to shoot at Jr's car" just might have gotten him in a little hot water with Na$car too. When they fined the others before Ward, it was because they were still on the racetrack and could have been "hurt" by a passing car. I think it is sad that Robby Gordon didn't get a "fine" for all of his actions during the race. He actually deserves a LARGE fine. He did to Jimmy Johnson EXACTLY what he did to Jeff Gordon in the Loudon race. I guess he figured if he couldn't get to Gordon, the next best thing was his teammate/driver. JMHO

We'll see what happens at Darlington!

I don't think its enuf. They fine these drivers 5-10k and they can pull it out of there pocket after a race day. Come on Nascar. I like Ward but Does Nascar have a back bone?

Suits me just fine (no pun intended). As I stated before, I hope he just goes ahead and pays them $10K now, so he'll be covered later. I still think it's hypocritical for NASCAR to promote the atmosphere at Bristol, then fine the drivers for providing that atmosphere. But Mike didn't call me.

I agree with you again, Ward. It is extremely hypocritical of NASCAR. But then, what else would you expect?

I don't think Ward Burton should have been fined. That's like adding salt to the wound, IMO.

Once NASCAR established that throwing something at a competitor on teh racetrack would draw fine by fining Elliott Sadler the same amount for the helmet toss, they had little choice on this one.

So far as we can judge, gesturing such as JJ's salute and (depending on your interpretaion) Kurt's invitation, seems to acceptable, or at least not punishable by fine.

I am surprised that a salute with the middle finger is deemed ok by the new Family Friendly NASCAR.

Me too, A driver uses "the bird" on TV, and Nascar does nothing. What does a small child say to that? Pretty stupid if you ask me.

Big old bunch of crap,I cant wait for Nascar officials to go on strike,Its comming ,trust me.

I thought it was funny, but then again no kids were watching here.

And Nascar seems to disregard cussing and spelling cuss words too.

A small child probably wouldn't say much....he/she might ask what it means though!!:) First time I saw someone gesture like that to my dad, I was given the answer that he was just waving to show his IQ......which, of course, led the the question of what was "IQ"!!:) Effectively changed subject.:D

Rusty used a familiar four-letter word in his post-race interview.

Three years ago, NASCAR fined Todd Parrott $5,000 after he used a similar four letter word while talking to his crew via the radio, which was being broadcast by ESPN.

Todd said it without knowing he was on air. Rusty said it directly into the camera.

What gives?

It may be a value judgement, but I don't really think the words are the same.

Given the current state of acceptable phrases for TV, Rusty's "Schidt" might pass, but I don't think F*** is anywhere close to passing and if I recall Todd's comment correctly it was "mutherF**ker"
