Ward Burton will attempt to qualify for his second Nextel Cup race of 2006, this Sunday's Dickies 500 at Texas Motor Speedway, Morgan-McClure Motorsports announced Tuesday.
Burton again will be behind the wheel of Morgan-McClure's No. 4 Chevrolet, which he drove Oct. 22 in the Subway 500 at Martinsville. He qualified 35th and finished 26th in his first Cup race in nearly two years.
Burton will have to qualify the Dickies 500 based on time because Morgan-McClure is 39th in owner's points.
"Texas is a challenging racetrack, especially with the current rules and tires," Burton said. "We have to work on getting the right setup in the car for qualifying."
Last Sunday in Atlanta the team entered Todd Bodine, who finished 42nd. The team posted a 28th-place finish with Scott Wimmer at the spring race in Texas.
Burton has raced in eight Cup events at Texas. His best start on the 1.5-mile oval is third (1998) and his best finish is seventh (1997).
"Our main race is on Friday when we have to qualify," Burton said. "I think Chris (crew chief Chris Carrier) learned some things from Atlanta, and I've qualified well there (Texas) in the past. We will go there and try to do the same thing. Once we are qualified, we can focus on our 'second' race on Sunday."
