This is what David Poole wrote in the Charlotte Observer:

Jeff Gordon ought to have his behind chewed for doing a burnout in front of the grandstands following his win. He ought to have a right to celebrate his win, sure. But he absolutely didn’t need to do it in a way that basically served as instigation to the worst elements in the crowd. Gordon’s smarter than that, or he should be, and at least he admitted afterward it was probably a bad idea.

My opinions

1. It probably wasn't the smartest thing Gordon ever done but Jeff has fans too, we deserve the right to see our driver celebrate just like anybody Else's fans.

2. He did admit it was a bad idea

Boo who.

NEWS HEADLINE:
Jeff Gordon not allow to celebrate his wins.

I think not. It doesn't matter if he is at Talladega or down the street. The man won a race. He deserves to celebrate his victory.

If the Dale Jr. fans didn't like that then they can choke on a fat chocolate cake or something.

odviously I'm not a Gordan fan, but if he wins why shouldn't he do a burn out? the fans don't like it then they don't need come to the races

tkj, I agree with you. It may not have been the brightest thing Jeff ever did, but he did deserve to celebrate.

And I don't agree that all the throwers were necessarily Junior fans.

I don't think they were all Jr fans either. I think the media portrayed it that way.

Maybe, maybe not.

In the victory lane show they show a clip when they were throwing stuff. I saw a Miller Lite bottle. So you can imagine from which fan that came from..and i have to wonder why? he finished third...

This is really starting to bother me, all this me defending Jeff Gordon stuff. The man should be able to celebrate his victory in the fashion that all drivers are able to do. Doggonit TKJ You may get me on his bandwagon yet.

Go ahead and jump on be9ak7ts16. We don't mind. 'Magin this. Me defending an Earnhardt. I have been upholding Lil E over DEI.

I am a true blue fan. I was a Richard Petty fan till the day he retired and then Jeff Gordon. Worked out pretty good. Richard's last race was Gordon's first cup race.:beerbang:

Oh yes remember that well. I have the tape of that race somewhere in my collection. The historical impact of that race wasn't known at the time.

I remember a rather long thread about burnouts but as for this "situation" there was crap flying from the stands before he started a burnout.

To even suggest that what those IDIOTS done is any way Gordon's fault is, IMO, exactly the reason why people feel they can/should get away with **** such as this.

Can you imagine how proud one of these JACKASSES feels when he's bragging to his friends Monday morning about how great it was to toss a can at #24. A man who's probably in the 3 all time best Nascar drivers and they feel it's cool to throw stuff at him and degrade his accomplishments.

These are not fans of racing, but rather morons who for some reason unknown to me, can get away with their childish, selfish, immature behaviour.

OK, I think I'm done that rant :)

Before you start casting dispersions I feel a need to confess.
As some of you may have figured out there is a certain red car and driver I may not like as good as some of the other drivers. :D Yet, I'm a Bud drinker.
So if I were of a mind to throw I'd be throwing Bud cans but I'm not a #8 fan. Some of those in the stands may like Cat Piss, uh, I mean Miller Lite and still pull for Lil'E.
You gotta go by the gear they're wearing not the cold one in their hand.
