NASCAR Nextel Cup driver Brendan Gaughan, driver of the No. 77 Kodak Dodge, will drive a Dodge Ram SRT-10 during an attempt to break Guinness Book of World Records' "World's Fastest Production Pickup Truck" record.

As Dodge gets ready to head to Daytona to defend its NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Manufacturer's Championship, NASCAR driver Brendan Gaughan will pilot a Dodge Ram SRT-10 in a quest to break the record for "world's fastest production pickup truck."

The event takes place on February 2 (Feb 3 in case of bad weather)

Heres the current record holder for fastest production truck.

hmmmmmmm that's a tough chioce, I wonder who will be faster, 380HP or 500HP, V8 or V10, that is a tough choice, duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. I think ford better but a bigger motor in that lightning.

It's not that simple. The torque and the power to weight ratio is as important as sheer hp. For instance notice the Ford is down 120 HP on the Dodge...but only down 75fp's of torque. I think in this case the Ford has a better power to weight ratio than the Dodge. Of course,I am no mechanic and it should still be fun to see if the vaunted f-150 Lightning can FINALLY be de-throned. My money is on the Blue Oval keeping the crown though.

don't ya think dodge already tested this truck for that record, IMO that would be a pretty big embarassment if dodge could'nt reach 148mph

Well the dodge 7.9 pushrod v10 defanitley has something on the small 5.4 ohc supercharged v8. It is possible that the lightning could go faster if it has really higher gears, or the 7.9 v 10 just dosn't have enough traction on the back wheels and just spins...

Well no more argueing anymore, its finally offcial.

Dodge Ram SRT-10 Grabs Guinness World Record

The Dodge Ram SRT-10 posted a two-lap, both-directions average speed of 154.587 mph

"I've certainly driven some fast trucks," Gaughan said, "but I've certainly never experienced anything like setting a Guinness world record. I've known for a long time that the Dodge Ram is the ultimate truck for the race track, and this certainly proves the Ram SRT-10 is the ultimate performance truck for the street."
