Weber Slams Fox
Weber Slams FOX Coverage
NBC/TNT NASCAR anchor Bill Weber says viewers can expect a different approach than they've seen on Fox as NBC and TNT take over the telecasts of the NASCAR Nextel Cup and Busch Series races for the second half of the season. "You will see drivers and the teams instead of the announcers," Weber said during a conference call with reporters. "More than likely in the postrace, you might just get race-related questions instead of just like little fun bits after it's over."
This will be NBC's last season with NASCAR, while TNT will have rights to six Nextel Cup races next season. TNT will televise both the Busch and Nextel Cup events this weekend from Chicago. TNT's plans for production and announcers for next year are not yet set, said Turner Sports Executive Producer Jeff Behnke.
"We are entrenched in our plans for 2007 certainly, but we haven't set any hard dates to announce our [new production] plans," Behnke said. "Our current focus is successfully launching our 2006 season. We are thrilled with every one of our announcers and extremely proud of our booth and our guys in the pits who we feel are the hardest working guys out there. Our current focus is our 20 weeks ahead of us with our partners at NBC."(Scene Daily)
JMO, but I'll bet we will see at least the same number of commercials (if not more) and much less of Benny.
