Weight loss challenge

Well, MaBelle and I have challenged each other to lose weight. Essentially, whoever loses the highest percentage of weight (from an initial starting weight) wins the competetion. On line are these prizes

Axl wins - we spend one whole day of our san antonio vacation in our hotel room, air conditioner on high, chilled champagne, room service, windows closed, just being lazy.

MaBelle wins - Axl buys tickets to Braves game for two (i'm an a's fan), must hold sign up in support of Chipper Jones (MaBelle's favorite).

The time span is from, i think sunday morning until we take our vacation, which may be as far off as april.

I am planning on doing the atkins deal again and including regular exercise in the form of walking. I bought a pedometer (one for her too) that counts steps and mileage. The goal is to get from my daily average steps (which I just started figuring) up to 10 K, which should be close to four miles.

I'll try to keep updates going on regularly, it will help me stay on track, early exit polls report a strong victory in my favor, considering I have the tendency to gain and lose weight in mass amounts on a regular basis. I think the incorporation of daily exercise will really help me out in keeping it off though, so I'm stoked. As always, encouragement is appreciated.

Mainly, we both want to lose weight to feel more attractive, but at the same time, I'm worried about diabetes and also about setting a good example for my children someday, I'm sure watching my parents balloon up and down and go on and off weight watchersesque type stuff didn't help me out too much, but I also enjoy being a lardass (lazy and eating) too much...just a habit i need to change. I want to be able to coach my kids in whatever sport they choose without looking like a slob.

Anyway, don't know if anyone cares, but for some reason, it makes me feel more reassured to write about it.

Good luck dude. You can do it.

I lost 19 pounds recently( in 7 weeks) on the Heart-Break-Too-sick-to-eat diet plan recommended by all the latest weight loss advocates. Trust me, nothing will drop those pounds quicker than chronic depression and the occasional suicidal flight of fancy. It really works and works well .Problem is I was never overweight to begin with and now I am a bit underweight. ANYHOW, here are the detailed, step by step instructions---granted it is a bit complicated:

1. Break up, receive heart break.

2. Stop eating.

3.Thats it.

(Seriously, drink nothing but water or black coffee with your meals, lay off anything else to drink and never eat bread, while increasing how many calories you burn gradually. Also, set a target goal of how much you want to lose and only check the scales once a week or so. Not more often than that.)

Good luck, keep us informed. (<---water)

I pulling for ya dude, a day spent in the hotel room together sounds much more fun than a ballgame, and I love a baseball game if you know what I mean. :growl:

Nothing like a little healthy competition among spouses. Good luck!

I'm pulling for both of you !!!! :bounce:

Need to lose weight here myself .... <_<

Keep us posted, I would love to hear how ya'll are doing !!!!!

Might give me some encouragement too .... :p

Axl, wishing you the very best! Watch the carbs, drink LOTS of water, and Atkins helped me loose 30+ Lbs when it first came out. One of my dear friends is also diabetic and is losing her eyesight. Exercise is VERY important to help reduce your blood sugar!

Good luck to both of you. The key to long term weight loss (as I understand it) is to lose it gradually, nothing drastic. I lost 30 pounds in about 2 years by really just cutting down on fast food and eating slightly smaller portions. I used to think I needed a 12" sub to get me through a work day. But, I discovered that a 6" sub fills me up fine and I don't get nearly as tired after I eat. After giving up french fries it wasn't hard to not go back as I lost my taste for greasy food very fast.

I don't know if that helps you at all, but it did me. Good luck.

Axl, I think you've found a wonderful crutch in your race. Keeping us updated will help in your endeavour and will act as a log, which is always very helpful. Good luck to the both of you and may it end in a tie with both losing the weight desired. Just think of that, both win what you want. I know that would please you both. :)
