Well, I'm never going to reach 10,000

Well, I don't see a avatar picture for you. Maybe you can talk about that.

You really want me to stir something up? I got sumthin been buggin me for a while, just kept my mouth shut (for a change) about it.

Please do!

Think we or this place can handle Paul squared? Twice the fun:) Think he will create a paralle universe and we are all x2? Oh the fun we could have. The Jr. fans would be Gordon fans and Gordon Jr. Fans--Tony fans could be Robbie Gordon fans or anyother combination! Think of the possiblities!:D

OK, you asked for it.

I want someone to tell me why it is such a terrible thing for folks to talk about Junior's drinking, or about Gordon's off-track life, or Tony's behavior control issues, but it's acceptable for a select few to come on here and give another driver a hard time.

Junior chooses to drink. Jeff chose to marry a gold digger. Tony's behavior is something that he can control, obviously. No more problems lately.

But some folks think it's high entertainment to ridicule another driver for something totally out of his control.

Why is it OK to make fun of Jimmy Spencer's weight/looks? All these comments about doughnuts, enough food to feed a pacyderm, etc etc ad nauseum are juvenile, tasteless, sophomoric, and asinine. Don't like Jimmy? Fine. Don't care for his driving style? Outstanding. But to say the things that get said, then have the undying gall to bitch when someone intimates that maybe, just perhaps, Junior isn't perfect shows your true colors.

I won't name names, there is no need. I know there will be dozens of replies about "It's all in fun, nobody gets hurt, blah blah blah". Let me ask you one question. How would you feel if you were at a race and Jimmy came by and was so nice to you that it left you stunned? How would you feel if he then turned and called you by your screen name?

Let the carnage begin.

That is a good question, but one that I don't have an answer for. I myself, find it difficult to, even in humor, make fun of someone because of looks, shape, size, etc....I might be guilty of "going along" at some point in time, but for the majority of it, it just sit quietly and say nothing.

Yeah I agree...

Jimmy Spencer is a big pile.

Wait, what are we agreeing to? :p

Seriously...all that stuff is open game, especially in a nameless, faceless forum such as this. I don't have any problems with it...but I agree that its, at best, contradictory for a fan to get bent when its his/her favorite driver on the chopping block.

Especially if said fan is a Spencer basher...

P.S. Congrats Paul on 10000 :D

Anyway, to answer your question...

When I asked that I was basically told that it's because Jimmy Spencer doesn't have many fans. And Jr/Gordon/Stewart do.

Not sure how that makes it ok, but I dropped it then.

Plus, I'm trying to turn over a new leaf and not argue with people all the time. Gonna give you folks some elbow room to go off instead of me all the time.

I'm hungry. Where are the wings and drinks? Holyoke?

And TNW, you are absolutely right. The real humor here is always welcome and even at times uplifiting on a dreary day. But name calling and personal bashing seem so petty. I'd like to think my time here is not wasted and that I can gain from the experience and knowledge of other NASCAR fans.

Congrats on 10,000, Paul. You pouring and cueing?:)

10, 000 and 200. Cooool!;)

As to TWF's question.

Tricky and simple at the same time. It's very easy to poke fun at a driver who has less passoniate fans represented on any given forum. Who's to complain?

I find it refreshing at times to have what is truly "just in fun" ribbing(or whatever you term you care to apply) of driver. Just as an example. 71Fan is somewhat of a Kurt Busch fan, though he might tend to argue a tad with that, the it is pretty obvious. Still he has no problem calling him "the kid with the funny ears". That's cool. I've seen TWF poke at his own driver as well.

To take it step further by example. Last weekend at Martinsville Jeff Gordon has a fairly eventful day on the track. If ya watched IWC with him and the boys they poked at him pretty good about some of his mistakes. I would have no problem with someone doing the same thing here. ut one would have to recogfnize it for what it was worth, which ain't much. It's just to have fun.

Now some would take the joshing perhaps into another area which would no longer be "joshing". That might create hard feelings and would doubtless bring some retaliation from Jeff's fans.

The next obvious occurrence is that some of Jeff's fans in the above example might be moved to respond in a manner not of good humor to even a joshing remark about the day.

Now don't get in a uproar, I only chose Jeff because the deal was fresh in my mind. It is can be just as true of every driver who has passionate and devoted fans on the board.

That's my take on joshing. With one caveat where I agree with TWF. Sometimes a joke, any joke, begins to wear thin. You can only ride the same horse for so far. (How's that for mixing Redwing Boots)

There are times when drivers, teams, owners, and yes NASCAR, are seserving of some legitmate criticism. That is the trickiest area of all. Words should be well chosed and thoughts well formed. Opinions will always vary and it goes without saying whose opinion will be right, yours. If ya keep that in mind a level head...who knows.

Of course your opinions on these thoughts are of no value, but let's hear 'em anyway!:D

Well, I have met Jimmy Spencer. He is one of the nicest, funniest drivers on the circuit. Since I have absolutely no interest in ever conducting marital relations with any of the drivers, maybe I am in a position to be a tad more objective. Some famous driver's son who needs a shave and a stint in rehab, but is "sooooooooooooo cuuuuuuuuuute" means nothing to me. Jimmy Spencer was nicer to me than Mark Martin was, and I happened to be wearing a Mark Martin shirt and a Mark Martin cap when I met them both.

Jimmy doesn't bother em; he never has. All the Earnhardt camp wants to excuse HIS rough driving, but raise Holy hell if Jimmy drafts too close to someone. Hypocrites.

All the crap he gets for his appearance comes from shallow fans, and I'd bet that way more than half of them weren't fans 10 years ago.

Don't misunderstand me; make fun of whoever you want to, Ward's accent included. Just remember that before long it'll be YOUR driver on the butt end. None of these folks are perfect, after all. I give, always have given, and will forever continue to give Junior a hard time. I cannot stand the little punk. He makes me violently ill. But his fans are not him, and as long as they allow me to, they will be treated with the same respect I would like to have from them.

Excuse me TWF...but why is Junior a punk in your opinion? I guess I might have missed something...

I have over the years had the good fortune to encounter many drivers on more than one occassion.

I have found ALL of them to be charming, friendly, outgoing, personable and helpful.

I have also found ALL of them to be stand offish, short tempered, arrogant, and downright rude.

Very strange behaviour for human beings.:D

Congrats on the milestone Paul. From where I'm sitting, that's a damn near impossible feat!

:beerchug:

Hey Paul, your status is still 0_o , what's that about? Is that the last status you can get?

Paul your slipping on the status stuff. Then again I'm sure you just make up random ones for yourself.

Because he whines and cries when he gets spun (doesn't he Shawna?), but when he does the spinning it's all supposed to be OK. Fits my definition of a punk.

Oh yea, Ward-Fan and myself finally agree on something.:D Jr. is a punk.:takethat:

Yeah, Jr does whine and cry when someone spins him. But, then, so do everyone other driver.....just the nature of the game. So, looks like nearly every driver in the series is a punk.:D And the other side of that coin......when he spins someone, it's "just racin'". And, again, "just racin" seems to be the comment from nearly every other driver in series. Guess I don't see where that qualifies him as a punk....but you think so, so who am I to dispute?:)

On the Jimmy Spencer stuff. I'm not sure who you are referring to when you say the "people" who make comments about his wieght and donuts. I figure I'm one of the people who nauseate you with the jokes......after all, two or three months ago I started talk about Jimmy and all the crap he takes from fans. I tried to do it with humor.......I'm actually a fan of Jimmy (and have made no bones about it either). I've never met the man, but I'm sure he's everything you said him to be. Anyway, I see most of the stuff said about Spencer since I began my little campaign as just good natured fun.......and, I've noticed a lot of people now keep up where Jimmy finishes (he's no longer just another car on the track for several people here on this forum). No harm there that I can see. There are some, though, that insist on being hateful. Sorry, if it bothers you.....not sure I'm going to alter my posts though.:) And, if you haven't noticed, I've sort of started the same thing with Todd Bodine (and I'm not a fan of his).

I do very little bashing on this forum.......drivers or fans. But, I do poke fun at some people when they go off the deep end with some of their statements about drivers. I agree with you that most of the hateful comments about drivers (or their fans) comes from the "new fans"......but we "old fans" can overlook most of it. Or, at least, point out the other side of the story (gently, of course).:) I've said it before, a lot of the new fans we are seeing in this sport will move on to the next up and coming thing to be part of.......many will stick. And those that do stick, will be just like you and me in twenty years......bitching about the "new fans".:D

If I may...

I think TWF is commenting more on how people get offended when their driver is "joshed" about yet are able to "josh" about un-pretty drivers.

You, clearly, are not one of those people DEW.

I don't remember any whining from Rusty when Gordo put the fender to him at Bristol.

I don't remember any whining from Busch when Spencer took him out at Indy. Staging, anger, all that, but no whining.

I don't call Ward's boot toss and subsequent comments whining, I call that anger.

I do recall Spencer's "Jimmy never forgets" stuff, that don't sound like whining, it sounds like a promise.

I seem to remember Benson admitting he tried to bump and run at Martinsville, just couldn't.

Maybe none of that counts though.

I for one, think Jimmy would join in on the fun we have. He himself has come on a tv interview holding a donut. He has joked about his weight before also. We all like to have fun in here. My man DJ is fare game to anyone (although he's such a good guy, can't think of anything wrong with him:) ) I love to pick on Jimmy, but I do respect his ability to drive the car. He brings color to a great sport. He, along with others are fun to watch and listen to. Maybe we do get carried away some nights, I look forward every Sunday thinking maybe the Fan club will be able to celebrate a Victory for their Man. All this is meant in fun, and no way meant to bash. So if you want start something on DJ and lets have some fun!:D

Hey when will I get to 10,000 posts?

People seem to be ignoring me? :( Do I smell? No one has responded to a single thread I've made...

I can relate Turbo........sometimes when I post something the thread just stops!!:( Thought for a while I was a "thread stopper"!:) But other times, I start some real big arguments and wish it would just stop!!:D Give it time, buddy, we ain't shy, to say the least.:D

I know the feeling dew2. I've started a couple of threads, and got about 3-5 posts. I haven't started any more lately, guess I'll wait for something really good. BTW, lost the rookie stripe today.
WOOHOO!!!!!:D

TWF, I think it all comes down to ,"if you're going to dish it out, then you'd better be prepared to take it." If you can't, keep your mouth shut. IMO
