@Allenbaba Are there any NASCAR wife positions available? I cook, like to dress up, and know more about racing than the average woman.

But for some back story, I screwed up some money, so I'm gonna quit before I get fired.

Stick it out, state your position on what happened and hope for leniency. If you quit, you cannot collect unemployment.

lol. I'm not worried about the money. This was never gonna be a long term job (I was planning on handing in my two weeks before my birthday in October anyway) and it's not in any way shape or form in my expected or wanted career paths. I've been applying for jobs for months and I will live off ramen if I need to.

They say you shouldn't burn bridges, but this one needs to be burnt to keep it from turning into a safety net. If anything it's taught me the value of getting my education and standing up for myself more often.

Think this over, I have no idea what you meant by screwed up some money. If the money is gone and you quit there going to think you took it and ran. Give yourself a chance to explain your side.

I accidentally refunded a credit card purchase instead of charging

This. Just because "it's not about the money" doesn't mean you shouldn't collect unemployment. You pay into it...might as well take advantage of it during the down times. I've collected unemployment before. There's no shame in it. Its purpose is to help sudden transitions (like being fired/laid off etc). Also...as an employer...I can tell you that's it's always better to find a job when you have a job. It doesn't matter if you're waiting tables, ringing a cash register or walking dogs. It not only sends a good message (that you value working/earning) it helps in the negotiating process. Hearing "currently not working" is my cue to make a lower offer than when I hear "currently happily employed." Just my two cents....

I hardly think that would be fireable offense. Honest mistake that can be rectified with a simple phone call to the cardholder. Tell them what happened and explain the remedy. My guess is 90%,(number pulled totally out of my butt), that the customer would be more than happy to help remedy the situation.

That should be a somewhat easy fix without anyone losing their job. Had something like that happen at my previous job a few years back. Someone pressed the wrong button on the point of sale terminal and refunded a few hundred dollars instead of charging. It wasn't caught until the next day when I was reconciling the credit card account and we were way off. It took a few phone calls to both our bank and the credit card company, but it was corrected after filling out a couple of forms.

As someone who has been fired for flipping out on a customer, and someone who has kept his job after some very big mistakes I think you'll be ok

There's likely not a single employee out there who hasn't made a mistake before. Most of those mistakes have likely cost their business money. Most of those people who made those mistakes likely didn't lose their job over it because the company knows that mistakes will be made. More so, they don't want to fire their employees unless they have no choice simply because they don't want to have to pay them unemployment. It appears that you don't really care for the job, but if that's the case...probably best of keep it anyway and try to find something new.

I negotiated a claim with an atty and after obtaining the release I wrote, signed and handed over the check to him and left. The problem was with the check, written for tens of thousands btw, was for the full amount of his demand. Not what we had negotiated.
That check far exceeded my yearly salary. When I returned to the office I had a urgent call from the atty who explained. I returned, wrote a second check, destroyed the first and nobody was the wiser.
Atty could have hung me out to dry but said I had been fair in our dealing and it was an honest mistake.

We all goof

Seems you would want to uphold your character more than your job. Own up,to your mistakes and if you leave do you want them to view you as someone who is responsible, hardworking , and trustworthy. Or will they view you as someone who just used them as a prop for your own purpose. Most likely you will carry that same work ethics to your next job.
