NEW YORK — Darrell Waltrip has signed a two-year contract extension to continue as lead analyst for Fox Sports’ coverage of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

Waltrip’s agreement with Fos Sports now extends through the network’s current rights agreement with the sport, which expires in 2014.

“Being part of the NASCAR on FOX team has given me an opportunity to share my passion and love for NASCAR,” said Waltrip, a three-time NASCAR Sprint Cup champion. “I never thought there would be anything that could replace the thrill of driving race cars. I was wrong. Bringing that thrill to the fans at home every week is just as exciting.”

Waltrip will continue his weekly columns for foxports.com and his appearance on the website’s NASCAR show — “3-Wide” — alongside fellow Fox Sports analysts Jeff Hammond and Larry McReynolds. Each week, Waltrip, Hammond and McReynolds are joined via Internet video conference without a moderator to discuss breaking news and give a sneak peek at what race fans can expect come Sunday.

NA$CAR is trying to get the stigma of redneck out of NA$CAR but allow Fox to keep hiring DW. NA$CAR needs to tell ol' DW quit with the redneck slurs like "whooded down", "boogidy boogidy boogidy". NA$CAR/Fox needs to get DW a diction coach. I would venture to say that this is one of the reasons ESPN thinks NA$CAR is a joke.

I have no problems with the TV coverage this season. FOX, SPEED and ESPN have all done a great job.
 
DW just doesn't do a good job anymore. Him forgetting that Carl just won the last two races last year is just another example of that. Then he said "Oh I was thinking about Tony".......not been 70 races since he won either DW:rolleyes:

Exactly what I was thinking!

The only excuse I can think of for that blunder is maybe he was thinking of how long would be since Carl won if he had not won the last two races last year....I guess...lol

I think that was a perfect example of the media trying to build a story. On prerace they spent forever talking about "the year that streaks are broken" just becuase Jeff won one....they are really digging for feel good stories these days I think.
 
Help me, give me the name of a shrink, I like ol DW. But hey, I seem to be in the minority here because I love NASCAR, I like what they are doing, and I'm addicted to the sport and just about everything about it...with maybe the exception of Rusty Wallace. But wait, maybe it's the entire Wallace clan. I don't care for Kenny and Mike is so so to me. I used to joke with their mother Judy about Rusty taking flying lessons only he should be doing them in aircraft and not race cars.

Help! :D

Im with you l like the fox guys over any of the other groups they got doing races right now. The fox guys are who got me to start watching this sport back in 02. And BP kept me watching through the end. Thats one dude i miss hearing behind the mic.

If you don't care for the Wallace clan surely you can understand others dislike of the Waltrips.
 
I'm pretty much indifferent on Waltrip. He's the same as he ever was and I know what to expect each and every Sunday during the FOX reign.

To read the posts on here it would appear that a majority despise DW. Is that truly the way it is among the masses? What does that say? Is TV not listening? Rusty gets re-upped a little while back and now DW. Either the powers that be don't care what their audience thinks or maybe these guys aren't as disliked as this board would lead you to believe. :confused:

Rusty and DW know their ****. I'd rather have them in the booth than some of the people they've tried in the past. Remember when TBS had Chuck Bown?

DW's gonna be in the booth for a while. The only person out there (not currently on TV) who has the resume, ability to entertain, ability to educate and inform is Kevin Harvick. Nobody else comes close to those guys.

As far as ESPN, I love Marty Reid, but Allen Bestwick should be in the booth calling the races, not in the infield doing ***** work.

Be careful, Bucky's counting on you! This post could have easily turned into a broadcast rant of some sort and Bucky would be screwed.
 
I guess it mean two more years of "Just for Men" commercials.....
 
The only one I don't like is Hammond. Everything comes back to Earnhardt with Hammond. Carl Edwards won and 9+9=18divided by 6=3, how cool is it. I can mention Dale after every race and every race winner has some significance with Earnhardt.
 
He doesn't bother me as much as he does most people. I will say he is my least favorite announcer of the three.
