I answer sports questions over at KnowBrainers (a question-and-answer site like Yahoo! Answers) and this one question has come in 7 or 8 times over the last few days; it must be a question in some contest or something:

What 1952 auto race was won by a driver wearing a seatbelt for the first time?

I don't know if this auto race necessarily took place in the U.S. I'm pretty sure that NASCAR was using some sort of driver restraint (ropes, basically) since its inception in the late '40s, but not something we would call a "seat belt" today.

I know this doesnt answer you question but its funny...Fronty Flock won the Southern 500 at Darlington in 1952 wearing Bermuda shorts!! The shorts now rest in the stock car racing hall of fame...lmao
