What a bad day

The day started off pretty lousy and that was before I was called in to work to be told I was being fired. The company has been in serious financial trouble lately and has been cutting costs at every turn. They have been laying people off left and right. Instead of laying me off (which would have let me get unemployment compensation) they fired me for a bogus reason so they would not have to pay me unemployment. Pretty nice guys eh?

Sorry to hear that 4x, but if I were you, I would fight them for the unemployment! That is total B.S.

I am so sorry to hear that you got fired 4X. I would definetly fight for unemployment if it was unjust.
Good luck.

Sorry to here that man. :(

but i am with majestyx fight em for it. that was not right what they did to you.

we are with ya buddy. :)

4x, that sucks!!! Like majestyx said, I'd fight for the unemployment.

I hope you find something better, who knows, this could have been a blessing in disguise.

Another thing, 4x......if they didn't document the "bogus" reason for firing you, then the burden of proof falls on the employer not the fired employee. Go to the unemployment office and fill out the necessary paperwork for unemployment benefits. Here's to hoping that everything works out for you!

Thanks guys and girls. I have already filed the paperwork. I called the unemployment office from my desk before I left. It was a long distance call, but I figured they owed me at least that. Ohio now does these filings by phone instead of having people sit around their office all day. Pretty good idea if you ask me. I should be able to get compensation from what the person I talked to said. I should be able to get a pretty good job very soon. I know I could have a job tommorow, but it wouldn't be enough to pay my bills. :( A house, a wife, 3 kids and a truck don't get supported on $10 an hour. Again, thanks for the support. :salute:

Hate to hear that 4x. If you don't mind me saking. What company did you work for.

I hate when life throws a curve ball at you. BTW what was your job? If I can ask.
I worked for the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company as a Sales Manager at one of the company owned tire outlets. Thanks for asking.

Not at all Gollum...I worked for Goodyear. You know anybody else that works for them?

Hey 4x, don't worry...you'll get unemployment.

You could have used a little vacation anyway right?

Keep your head up....

Sorry to hear that.Good luck and hang in there.Just gotta take it one day at a time.

Thanks Dude...I could use the vacation, but the going at least 3-4 weeks with no income couldn't come at a much worse time. But, I'll keep my head up. It'll all work out, it always does. This is only a test.

Yep me. I know a bunch. But most of the ones I know are hourly. But we have over 900 layed off here in Union City. That is hourly got over 100 sal. layed off to.

Thanks Gollum. It is brutal up here. They are laying people off by the hundreds at a time. I found out they plan to cut 30% of their remaining work force some time in July!

I'm really sorry to hear about your job 4x. Gollum and I live in the same town, not only has Goodyear layed off but there are plants closing all around us. Things are really bad and I look for them to get worse. :(

It is almost unbelievable that Goodyear could be having this many money problems. They still make some of the best tires in the world. They make more tires than anybody in the world too. But they also make some of the worst business decisions in the history of the universe. They bought Sumutomo so that they could be "#1 in tires". They paid around $1 billion for the company and assumed around $2 billion in debt from Sumutomo. In effect they paid $3 billion for a company that was impossible of turning any real profit just so they could say they were the biggest tire maker in the world. They also left Sam Gibara in charge of the company for entirely too long after it was clear that investors had no confidence in him at all. Then when they finally removed Gibara as CEO, they left him in charge of the Board of Directors, so he in effect had almost the same power as before. Investors didn't buy that for a minute and it has gotten even worse as a result. Now they are cutting off their nose to spite their face. The have been losing market share to the 2 french owned competitors...Michelin and Bridgestone/Firestone. So to combat the loss of market share, they pretty much destroyed the employee rebate program which sold more tires for them than any other program they had. Pretty brilliant, huh? And guess who is paying the price for these decisions? It's people like me and countless others who are just trying to raise a family and do their best. Meanwhile, the guys who make these decisions ride off into the sunset with their 7 figure salaries tucked away nicely.

If you don't mind me asking....what state are you from? Here in CO. an employer does not have to give a reason for a firing, it is state law which really sucks, basically they can get rid of you for no reason....just fire you and not pay unemployment. :(

Man, my life is turning into a country song
Not all country songs are depressing...there are some really upbeat ones! :)

Keep your head up 4x, it will all fall into place. I wouldn't give up on the unemployment. :salute:

I was thinking along the lines of some old Merle Haggard. Like, "If we make it through December"

4x you will get your unemployment compensation,it may just take an extra review is all. Don't waste your time waiting for it,get busy, and find another job,and when it comes it will be like a savings to you.Work with your creditors also, they will be more helpfull than you think. ^_^ Good luck my friend.

Thanks PBunch. I'm sure I will get it too. I am certainly not wasting time waiting for it though. I have been contacting anyone I know in the industry checking for an available job. I have several very promising leads that I likely won't know anything about until after Memorial Day. I am just trying to mostly relax this weekend and enjoy the time off. I have one contact I made today that wants me to bring him a resume Saturday, but other than that I'm pretty much trying to chill.

I wish you the very best for sure 4x. Nothing wrong with taking a bit of time to yourself.I wake up unemployed every day, being self employed, that is till i make a deal come together. You will se a positive side to this ,trust me. ^_^

I'm sure it will work out in the end. I really have little doubt that I will end up with a better job. But, the next few weeks when I have no money for pretty much anything including groceries is a little scary. If it was just me it wouldn't be so bad, but the kids are another story. I will make it though, I always have.

Sorry to hear that 4x, I know what's it's like to be on unemployment, for a short time lucky for me but not fun at all...

but you know what they say...

..when a door closes...a window opens...

I'm sure you'll find something and it might be even better with more pay...something to aim for at least!...Good luck mate.

Hey 4X...

I know that Go-Jo up toward Cuyahoga Falls (may actually be Hudson, not sure) is hiring and they have never had a lay-off. They are turning 12 hour days 5 days a week and pay around $12.50 to start. We have a family friend that works up there. Not sure if this is up your alley or not.

:salute:
