Apparently the moron that built our house, for some unbeknownst reason, used particle board for the floor of my bathroom. And apparently, my shower has a leak.

your imagination can go from there...

If your shower has a leak it does not matter which wood is used on the floor... It would be ruined anyway! Particle board is one of our wonder materials. It does a better, cheaper job than other materials in lots of uses.
Your problem was your shower PAN leaked. Not to be blamed on the flooring material... When it is reinstalled make sure to put a FIBERGLASS shower pan in there. The fiberglass resin will adhere to your drain pipe and form a waterproof barrier. The new pan should protect against leaks for as many as 100 years.. The installers of these fairly new shower pans usually give a 10 year guarantee from leaks.

well its the door seal that leaks (shower stall) cuz the door goes roof to floor..it's a fiberglass 1 piece stall

:p you got off easy..I had a pipe under the house get a very small pin hole in it..Naturally it was spraying water directly on the dang particle board.. I don't know how long the pipe had been leaking..we only found out about after the floor in front of the sink began to give. We had tile in our bathroom so we had to take all that up, the toilet had to be taken up, and the vanity had to be removed, so the floor could be replaced. Yeah there was that much damage. I nearly had to be put in the nut house after going through all that repair work with my husband. I did learn to be more observant from that fiasco though.

is linoleum on the top 10 "worst building materials to work with" list? If not, it should be.
