LEAA: Florida Jury Blames Gun Distributor, Lets Killer Go Free; Cop Group Says Palm Beach Jury Makes Mockery of Justice System

WASHINGTON, Nov. 14 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The nation's largest coalition of law enforcement professionals, crime victims and concerned citizens, criticized a Palm Beach County Jury for a verdict LEAA claims makes a mockery of justice and common sense. Earlier today, a Palm Beach County Jury returned a verdict held a gun distributor liable in a civil lawsuit stemming from a fatal school shooting.

The incident involved Nathaniel Brazill, 13 years old at the time of the killing. Brazill stole a gun from a family member's home and went to school, allegedly angry after having been suspended from class. Brazill's act of murder was caught on videotape by the school's security cameras. He was convicted and sentenced to 28 years in prison.

The jury also found liability on the school district and the person from whom Nathaniel stole the firearm. The jury did not find any liability on the part of the person who actually aimed the gun at the teacher and pulled the trigger -- Nathaniel Brazill.

Law Enforcement Alliance of America (LEAA) Executive Director and retired New York police officer James Fotis expressed his group's dismay over the jury's nonsensical verdict, "if you point a gun at another human being and pull the trigger, any person, including Nathaniel Brazill, knows what will happen. The gun is not defective, Nathaniel Brazill is, and the gun distributor is not responsible, Nathaniel Brazill is."

Fotis added, "the lawyer who filed this bogus lawsuit said this case isn't about guns and he is right, this is about a shameless attempt by liberal extremists who seek to place blame anywhere but in the hands of the criminals who commit the crimes, it's a shameless act and a grave threat to the integrity of our justice system."

With over 75,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Law Enforcement Alliance of America (LEAA) is the nation's largest coalition of law enforcement professionals, crime victims, and concerned citizens dedicated to making America safer. Visit our web site at http://www.LEAA.org.

What the hell are going through these people's heads? I mean, other than cocaine residue......

How can you hold the distibutor responsible for something that another person did with their product? If you get into a car accident with someone driving an F-250, can you sue Ford?

I guess in Florida you can.....

:bleh: :bleh: :bleh: :bleh:

Saddest part is, when some of these liberal fools find themselves on the holding end of the hurt bag, they are the first ones to cry bloody murder and demand justice. Never mind this teacher's family; I've been hurt now and someone needs to pay.

Disgusting.

Fergy, would a lowly parole officer be eligible to join this group? I've about had enough of offenders' rights, let's see some justice for a change.

That is so damn sad. I don't see how some of these people can sleep at night.:(

TWF, I don't see why a parole officer couldn't join.

And don't think yourself as "lowly". There is no such thing as a "lowly" anything when it comes to dealing with the scum of the Earth. Takes a special person to deal with these criminals day in and day out. You deal with them a lot more than I.........

Had to do a quick re read. Civil suit. At first I thought it was a criminal court and was gonna go completely insane.

Sadly, the world of civil litigation has been allowed to raom freely into the "deepest pockets" justification for not the filing of such suits but also in the rulings on such actions. "They" can afford it, so let's hit 'em.

At one time quite a few years back I had a list of civil suits that went to trial that were, IMO, ludicrous. I felt that the attorney representing the plaintive in each of them should have barred from practice for a period of not less than 3 years and if ever found filing another such suit barred for life.

As long as the courts continue to accept such suits and support this type of filing, I see no end to the depths the system will fall.

They WEREN'T thinking with a clear head. This seems to me to be the biggest miscarriage of justice I have seen of late.

And, TWF, fergy is right. You should never consider yourself "lowly" when it comes to what you do for a living. Not everyone can put up with the types of people that you do day in and day out. Keep up the good work! And Congratulations!

these sick minded individuals are only able to do this because it did not directly effect them. i dont know how they can sleep at night, they should have to do 1000 hours of community service to the families of the people that have suffered from the people they have set free:mad:

Grunow's family should get $24 million from the three parties.

The school board was told to pay her $10.8 million.

The family friend was told to pay $12 million.

Valor $1.2 million.

Grunow's lawyer asked for $76 million. But the jury found gun distributor Valor Corporation 5 percent liable for Grunow's death. The owner of the gun and the school board held the most of the liability, the jury found.

:kaioken: :screama:  :mygawd: :headshake

To me this kind of judgement is assinine.
The gun didn't kill the victim. If you want to really get technical the bullet caused the fatal injuries. The bullet is the part that devestated the victims body. So why not sue the manufacturer of the bullet.
And if you want to get really stupid, lets blame the school for suspending the boy, the teacher for disciplining the boy which led to the suspension, and society for making the boy a poor student who can't behave. Also we can blame hollywood for making bad shows, and makers of t.v.'s that show us the trash from hollywood, and we can include movie theaters.
Let's blame the neighborhood where he grew up along with the local politicians who made his neighborhood so bad.
.:p :p

To me there is only one guilty party to this shooting. That is the person who pulled the trigger. This is also the person who stole the gun from the owner. Put the blame where it belongs.

The gun did what is was supposed to do, no faults there. They only fault is the scum bag who aimed and fired. He probably loaded the thing too.

I wish they would bring back public hangings and death by firing squads as form of punishment.

Public executions sound good to me. Then take the young juvenile delinquints down to the site and let them know that could be their future if they don't straigten up thier lives.

I support capital punishment as long as the "FACTUAL" evidence proves they are guilty beyond the resonable doubt. Sometimes I feel they should die the same way their victim died. But then the ACLU would get upset. After all the criminal has more rights then the victim, right?

How ludircous, guns don't kill all by themselves. Even a civil jury should be better briefed by the defense.

I worked for a lawyer for 20+ years, and was in court often hearing lots of BS.

Agree, but the assinine legal eagles and the people on this jury should go first.

I think I ought to be able to sue the dinosaur's. You see they died and made oil. Man found and learned how to refine the oil. I worked for an oil company that sold out to another who in turn gave me a severance. Its all the fault of the Dinosaurs. Now all I have to do is find some Bozo with a Law degree.

I wonder what kind of evidence the lawyers gave the jury that made their judgment so poor.

Fergy, are you a member of this LEAA group, or just surf across it?

Sometimes prob/parole officers catch a lot of flack from the community, and usually we deserve some of it. Too many lazy people doing this job. But the longer I do it, the more I am convinced that the one element of the criminal justice system that gets the shaft is the vicitms/families. I get calls every day from some thug's family, wanting to know when their innocent little boy gets to come home. Sometimes I want to give them the number of a mother of their victim, and let her tell them about her little boy who will never come home again. Course, I'd get fired...

As I've stated before...We need a "victim justice system" not a "criminal justice system". Because as it stands only criminals get any justice.
