NASCAR will not bar rookie Scott Wimmer from the Daytona 500 despite Wimmer's recent arrest for driving while impaired. Until the matter is resolved, Wimmer is free to compete in the Nextel Cup series, said Jim Hunter, NASCAR vice president. "We're just going to let the judicial process run its course and not going to judge Scott prematurely," Hunter said. Should Wimmer excel during the events leading to the Feb. 15 Daytona 500 or the sport's biggest race, it will only draw more attention to his arrest instead of his achievement. Hunter was adamant that NASCAR would not change its approach despite the potential controversy. "We have always followed the judicial system in this country, and we're going to continue to," he said.

like I said in the other thread about this subject, in my line of work if I got a DUI I would lose my job, not no "let's wait and see what happens" attitude.

I'm dyslexic, I got a IUD. At least I can't get pregnant.

No DUI until convicted.
I agree, but if the law says innocent until proven guilty, why would they suspend his drivers license. the law says one thing and does another. I give credit to Nascar for at least going by the letter of the law.
I have no intention of starting any trouble but most people know it works this way.

He hasn't been convicted or even gone to court on it. With him not being found until after the fact and at home I would be surprised if he gets convicted on anything more than leaving the scene of the accident. Any good lawyer should be able to beat the DUI part of it, unless they can find proof of him driving and getting obviously drunk some place else.

Atleast in the states they take away drivers licence's for DUI in Canada (atleast I think) if you have a DUI your drivers licence is suspended for 24 hours at time of offense and than is reinstated. 2nd time you lose your licence.

a DUI, thats it? I know drinking and driving is a bad idea, but your making a mountain out of a mole hill, he had a little bit to drink, heck for all we know, he could have just had a few cups of champagne at a sponser party, but penske racer, your making sound like he was comepletely wasted and driving the wrong way on a one way road.
We dont know how annebreated he was.
he shouldnt have been driving, yes, but lets not crucify him.

What part of a .15 (which is .07 OVER the legal limit of .08) did you miss? He was almost twice the LEGAL limit for being drunk.

I'm pretty sure in most states that when you receive a DUI/DWI, your driver license is suspended IMMEDIATELY. If you have a Commercial License along with your regular driver license, and your job REQUIRES you to have one, they have all of the legal authority to fire you. It is NOT based on being convicted, only charged.

In VA, you lose your license automatically for seven days upon arrest for DUI....I don't know about the rest of the country, but I assume there are similar laws. After the seven days are up, you go to the courthouse and get your license back.

I'm not positive to what the rules are in our state, much less what all the other state's rules are. But I know Wisconsin lowered the legal limit to .08 last year & changed the suspension of license law so that they would not lose federal highway funding monies. So these laws must be real similar in all states since it seems the federal government is dictating them by intimidation.
