Best fun car ever owned was a 1952 MGTD. I used it for road rallies and timed hill climbs, daily transportation, etc. Was a great car until …….. Memorial Day, 1956. That is when a drunk driver came on my side of the county road and hit me head on. It totaled the car. Other than a change of underwear I had no injuries. There is a funny story that goes with the MG though.
I don't know how much any might know about the MG's from the early 1950's, but in the one I had, the front seats wouldn't adjust forward or back and the driver and passenger seat were separated by the gear shift and driveshaft tunnel. As small as those cars were, it still took an old army blanket folded and placed behind my back to push me closer to the steering wheel. One warm summer night, I took a girl friend to a movie and after the movie, drove to the state park and pulled up in a secluded area and parked under some cedar trees by a lake. We necked for awhile and it wast long before it got hot and heavy. We couldn't get close to continue any adventures I had in mind, and pretty soon, the gal grabbed the blanket, jumped out of the car, ran under the trees, spread the blanket on the ground and proceeded to disrobe. GOD! But she was beautiful in the moonlight with her bare breasts and milky white skin!
Meantime, I sat in the car taking it all in and it wasn't long before the gal looked me in the eye and said, "Kenny, if you don't get out of the car, I'll get out of the mood for love."
Embarrassing as it was, that damn small car made it necessary to reply, "If I don't get out of the mood for love, I can't get out of the car!"
Had quite a few cars and trucks after the wreck of the MG. And most after that pretty much remain little more than transportation.
Currently have a 1999 Lexus LS 400 in showroom condition with 80,000 miles and a 2004 Dakota V-8, 4x4, extended cab, SLT, auto with 102,000 miles and no major problems. I chuckle every time I think of that MG though. What a fun car!
