What do they (TV crews) need to do to make you people happy

Okay, last year everyone complained about ESPN and how much they suck. Now, it's FOX. Everyone's whining about the Toby Lightman performed theme song (which I like, btw), Gopher Cam, Darrell Waltrip, etc, etc.

Before ESPN, it was Bill Weber and "The fuel lives and Montoya wins at Sonoma ... that's amazing" and before that it was NBC.

I personally liked NBC, I really like TNT and I think FOX (minus being one dimensional) has done superb job.

You complain about TNT's "Born to be wild" (performed by Hinder) theme song and now you're complaining about "Let's go racing boys" (performed by Toby Lightman).

You run your mouths about the core fan and the racing sucks and blah blah blah, and now you complain about the COT (which I think is the best thing NASCAR's done in years).

What do the TV crews have to do to satisfy you and what does NASCAR have to do to satisfy you?

I too like TNT coverage the best and I do like DW and most of the coverage on Fox. I just wish Fox wouldn't cut to commercials every oh 10 laps.

Oh and they all suck at picking a theme song. Even the theme song for Raceday on SPEED Channel suck.

They shouldn't replay one song every time they come back to commercials because you'll just end up hating a song you like which is what happened to me last year with Hinder, I totally loved that song by Hinder "Born To Be Wild" but I heard it so many times that I lost all taste for it.

I loved the TNT theme music and how they always used that song.

I've always wondered why nobody uses the song "Steady at the Wheel" by Shooter Jennings. The song's a perfect fit for racing.

If you play any NASCAR game then you wouldn't be saying that. lol

That song is in one of the EA NASCAR games. It plays all the time. argggg

That "Lets go racing boys" song SUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKS!!! It drives me nuts everytime I hear it. Like finger nails on a chalkboard. But what sport has a good theme song? They all suck.

Well, EA Sports hasn't made a racing game for the PC since 2005 and, despite the fact that Nintendo sponsored Greg Biffle's car, they don't want to make a NASCAR game for the Wii, so I don't play that game.

I'm stuck playing NASCAR Thunder 2003 and IndyCar Series for racing games. EA Sports sucks. :(

That said, I'm sick of these late 5pm starts.

I love that song.

Plus, Toby Lightman's pretty cute, jmo.

To answer your question about what they need to do to make me me/us happy, is easy. All they have to do is just shut up and stop all the pre race junk and show the darn race. And show all the battles along the way. I'd like it if they would not talk unless some real information needed to be reported.

What their missin is me I think I would be great sitting up there with DW and the boys, chatting up the race for all of you lol I think it's a good Idea, I'm fun and funny :p

Is not really the broadcasters fault. Its entirely NASCAR's fault. They want to pleased the sponsors and what not.

- Too many in-car cameras. While they are good for replays, they deprive us of some good on track racing

- Too many on-track cameras. Well, maybe not too many, but used to often. Again, when they cut to these specialty cameras (the gopher cam, the wall cam, the crane cam, etc), we are deprived of racing action. There might be three or four side by side battles going on, but have to see the grill of someone's car and nothing else. And the worst thing about this is when they have a restart, these are the ONLY cameras the use for like two laps.

- The cutaway car, the tim brewer garage with all the computer graphics, all that. Yes, I know they want to appeal to the new fan, but they just use them to often.

- Start the broadcast 30 minutes or less before the start of the race. We don't wanna see the blue man group, tom cruise, or whatever celebrity they feel needs the publicity for a new movie or whatever. Start the show, talk to a few drivers, and get on with the race.

Steve Jenkins, Ned Jarrett and Benny Parson in the booth, Jerry Punch as a lead pit reporter......that was the best broadcast team EVER.

VaDirt, you left out the shocks camera, the foot camera and the shifter camera that we get. Oh, and the camera pointing out the side that shows another car passing.
Show me Brewer's garage stuff and Boris' feet and all that in the pre-race. If you are new to Nascar isn't it better to know what to look for than to have the race interrupted to go over all this?

You mean Bob Jenkins.

I think Allen Bestwick is way underused at ESPN. Benny's .... uh .... dead. Dale's son is in the booth, and yeah, Jerry needs to go back to the pits.

That said, ESPN is better than they were last year. I think we could all tell what those drivers were thinking yesterday when Jamie Little and Shannon Spake (who is also VERY underused at ESPN) showed up for the interviews. :growl:

I thought larry Mac quit fox and went to TNT

Larry and Matt Yokum are both on FOX and TNT. Ralph Sheheen (who is also way underused) is also on TNT, but he primairly works for SPEED (owned by FOX).

Marty Snider also works for NBC Sports' NFL coverage.

Lindsay Czarniak also works for NBC on the local spectrum. I like seeing her on TNT HD, she looks even better in hi-def and in person than she does on NBC4. :growl: She was the first reporter to speak to the Redskins players after the death of FS Sean Taylor #21. She will be apart of NBC's coverage of the 2008 Beijing Olympic games, which will be on NBC, CNBC, MSNBC and Bravo.

Why complain about the pre-race being so long. Simply not watch it and wait until the race starts.

Andy I don't think anyone complained about ESPN as much as you and now you say everyone?

Exactly when I saw this thread and who it was started by! LOL If I remember correctly, TNT was WAY WORSE than FOX with commercials. It seemed like they cut to one about every 3-5 min. I remember getting really annoyed!

Lots of people don't like DW and Hammond but I do. I think they are knogable and funny. (I especially like Hammond he's:cool:)

But that's the problem, they (fox) says "tune into the race at 3:30" (or whatever time), and you have to sit through however much crap before the race actually starts. They don't call it the pre-race, just Nascar racing. If they'd actually call the firsthour of the race the pre-race show, then we could avoid it.

Yup, meant Bob...oops!

And yes, I know Benny's dead. Didn't say I wanted that team back, just saying they were the best team.

Guess I am used to the Greensboro paper. They listed the pre-race at 3:30 and the race at 4:30. Our paper alway makes the distinction.

I've been watching racing on TV a long time and of course, there are things that the networks do that I don't like, but complaining about it 24/7 won't do a thing. DW doesn't bother me in the least though I do recognize that he can get on people's nerves. For the most part, I enjoy the broadcasts because I do remember when I couldn't even get the races on the radio, let alone the TV. It seems to me that if one has so much negative to say about the coverage, one would simply stop watching it and tune into something that one would rather watch.

I honestly can't remember what the paper said this morning, but the Cox guide said Nascar racing at 3:30. Fox adverstised it as 3:30, as did Nascar.com (listed TV coverage starting at 3:30)

I use this site http://www.geocities.com/racefantv/USTV.htm. They tell you what time the green flag is expected.

3:30P-8:00
FOX
NASCAR Sprint Cup UAW-Dodge 400, Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Las Vegas, NV, HD, L (expect green at 4:50P)

i get annoyed that Fox advertises the race starting an hour or an hour and half before it really does.

Fox would be a lot better if Larry Mac was taken out of the box, i swear he screams throughout the entire race.

the whole tighten up them belts and boogity boogity boogity is so so bad......

I can handle DW and even Jeff Hammond sometimes...but Larry kills it for them.

I love Larry Mac, can tolerate Hammond, and DW is to much most of the time.

It's all comes down to a matter of preference. Thank goodness there is a variety of things, it would be one boring world if everyone liked the same person/things. That's where tolerance comes in. :)

Andy, I used to tell people on another board, that constantly complained about certain TV coverages, they'd complain about all of them. Sure enough, they did. Fox would be on, complain about them and look forward to NBC. NBC would be on, can't wait for Fox.

My thing with racing coverage is don't miss any of the vital action, have accurate scoring on the screen, and tell me what's going on in the pits (the things that can't be seen unless you're down there). Everything else is nothing to me. I'm old enough to remember when NO races were shown on live TV except for the last 50 miles of the Daytona 500 on Wide World of Sports. So I'm less likely to complain. Yeah, some of the announcers annoy me. But the networks are pretty good at filtering out the bad ones.

That's my thing with FOX is the timing and scoring. Their ticker is way off, by 4 or 5 laps at times.

Saw something pretty funny yesterday like this. They had Kahne in-car, and were showing the following stats:

Currently: 3rd

Started: 43rd

Highest: 4th

Now wait a second.....if he's 3rd right now, wouldn't that be his highest position?
