Did the the Country Music Awards suck or what?
I have to vent.
Tim McGraw and his wis wife have ruined "Country Music" as I remember as a child. Hollywood cross-over artists more concerned about the dollar that they are concerned about what they are recording.
What the hell happened to country music?????
They've killed country music on the west coast. It makes me wanna move.
I have to listen to country on the internet.
I grew up with Willie, Johnny Cash, Vern Gosdin, Buck Owens, Don Williams, etc. In my collection I have Jim Reeves, Lefty Frizzell, Conway Twitty, Loretta Lynn, Tammy Wynette, Dolly, etc.
If these modern country music fools think that they are singing country music they are in for a rude awakening.

Bobby, I remember WAY back to the early '50s (even growing up in New England).

They want to work to the "demographics" and I actually LIKE some of the newer stars. NO, it's not the old time "Country Western" but some of them are really good!

Miss Kat, I was very disappointed!

That's MS KAT! :D

I was too, but I also miss Gene Autry, Roy Rogers, Johnny Paycheck and George Jones, among others.

CMT used to be one of my very favorites, but these days there is very little "Country" left in Country Music. That's SAD, IMO.

Sorry "MS" Kat, my apologies :)
You're right there is no "country" left.
George Jones, Roy Rogers, Gene, etc.
Why hasn't Dwight been nominated for anything???
George Strait isn't even mentioned (hell he started in '81).
It's the end of an era? :(

It's sad, but music, like the rest of life, changes. The old artist will one day be fade into the sunset and the new will rule. However, people will always be able to remember those old cowboys and cowgirls.

As Hank Thompson once sang...I've got time for one more round and a six pack to go. Hank's six pack has been gone now for many years. :(

Music changes...

Look at rock...ZZ top, skynard, stones, beatles......then look at todays rock, it is not near the same.

Add Dwight Yoakam to that list... :beerbang:

I don't know HOW Chesney won again. I hate the guy's music. Make me think I'm listening to pop music on some South Florida port.

Funny and true story. Way back on my 1st trip to Vegas, I was by myself, I rented a car to drive over to the Grand Canyon. Upon my return I asked the car rental clerk if we could do an adjustment on the rental rate because something was wrong with the radio. She pulled out a form to document the problem and cracked up when I told her that all the radio would play was C&W music.

We lost our only so-called country station in L.A. a few weeks ago. Fortunately, real country music still lives on in the archives of my music collection.

We have 2 here and, I wish we would lose them!!!!
:D

Hmmm, I guess this guy wants everyone to listen to what he likes. I would venture to say that he is probably a Democrat. :)

Just kidding and I hope you get what you want... higher taxes etc... no wait, there I go again.

Country music...what is it? I would say that it depends on who you ask...or is that axe? Anyway, I grew up in Oklahoma in the 50's and 60's and what was considered Country back then was called Country and Western. What happened to the Western part of that?

As with all kinds of music, C&W has changed it's look and is more like pop these days than what it has always been. Of course, it all goes back to what makes money from the artist to the producer. Think about this, Hank Williams was a huge success in his day, but if he were a new artist today, would there be a HW Jr. in twenty years?

Just as the era of Big bands has past, I'm afraid that the era of true C&W has past as well. If you think that you'll live without this great music for the rest of your lives, just think about our parents who have lived without the likes of the Dorsey Brothers, Glenn Miller etal. I'm one of those who morned the passing of Jimi Hindrix, Janis Joplin and Jim Morrison, but I still try to understand today's music.

Fortunately, today's country music still has the likes of George Jones and others likes him. While it's true that artists like Chesney are taking over the top spots, it's only because the listeners are wanting more from him.

As for Dwight, I guess the real question is why hasn't he made an album of late. I do believe that he thinks more of himself as an actor than a singer. Too bad. :(

I gotta say for sure that I like Dwight. I got everything he's recorded. I love that Bakersfield twang. I wish he'd make another album, and I wish he got a little acknowledgement for it.

Check it out, we still call 'em "albums".

Kinda reminds me of Jimmy Buffet! Played to death, but after you hear it a few times,

Country and Western.........Gene Autry, Roy Rogers, Tex Ritter, Rex Allen, Jimmy Wakely,....now those were some singing Cowboys. And don't forget the Sons Of the Pioneers (all Democrats) :) who could really sing.

Patsy Montana (have 3 albums autographed by her), Rose Maddox, Kitty Wells, Loretto, and more that my feeble mind has forgotten.

In my day what is now called Country was called Hilbilly Music. Of course the music was much better back in those days. It is my right to listen to whatever kind of music I choose and for me I prefer to listen to CD's of performers from the 30's, 40's, 50's, and 60's. There is enough old music available that I don't have to listen to hip-hop, rap, and the other stuff they call music including the Country music today that sounds like it was computer generated.

Have you ever really listened to Louis Armstrong or Bing Crosby, they had excellent voices and could sing a song. Enough rambling to all you young'uns.

And back to my packing......they will load the truck on Nov 14 and unload in North Carolina on Nov 16. I sure hope this is our last household move, it has been very time consuming and stressful, to say the least. I will be out of contact for most of the next several weeks due to the move. :)

Muggle, where in NC you headin' for? If'n you are heading for the n/w part, I can give you the name of a great radio station that you will enjoy.

We will be located a little NE of Summerfield and NW of Greensboro. Off Rt 150.

You will then be able to get a great little station located in Galax, VA that plays "old" country music. WBRF FM 98.1 also plays bluegrass as well. Of course, they will play today's country as well, but it's a pleasure to hear those oldies that you can't hear any where else. http://www.blueridgecountry98.com/

There are two country stations in the Triad (Winston Salem, Greensboro and High Point) that play country, WTQR FM 104.1 and a newly reformated station to modern country, 93.1, the Wolf. Google them and you can see what they are like. We used to have a great station out of Statesville that carried all the NASCAR races, but they changed to something that I can't even begin to describe. Sure do miss that station. Now, only WBRF carries the Busch races, but that station is also the anchor station for Wake Forest sports and when the Deacons are playing, the racing is pre-empted.

Great, I will copy your post and tune in to the stations. Galax is a great place, so is Floyd, VA, home of the largest collection of bluegrass/oldies in the world. I played (tried actually) a little fiddle. I also have a beautiful hand made Mountain Dulcimer that I used to play a little. I had it made by a guy up in Black Mountain many years ago. Thanks for the info.
