How many people were in the stands for the nationwide race?

I saw maybe..... a few?

Looked like a couple hundred to me.Looks like shrub winning the championship really sold some tickets huh.

I'd guess fewer than 5,000 judging from the shots from the blimp. I think I'm being rather generous going as high as 5,000 too.

South Florida cares about NA_CAR about as much as California. Burn Homestead down too, and lets go racing in the Commonwealth.

Bingo. To hell with Miami. Noone cares around there and the ones that do don't want to drive that far. Same with Cali.

NASCAR will (hopefully) learn something from this, but probably not with the ego they seem to have. It'll be too late by the time they digest exactly how bad they have screwed up their own empire. If they want to save face they need to look back a few years and rethink what the hell they have done to damage the sport. Continue on this route, they'll need the WWE team to come in to sell ANY tickets.........

I did hear from a friend in Maimi that his associate had one of the best ticket sales years for the cup race............guess we'll see about that tomorrow.

What has NASCAR done wrong that explains the attendance at yesterday's race?

One of the things is that they don't promote this series, period. I listen to ESPN Radio everyday and though the Nationwide race is shown exclusively on ESPN2, I have never heard them promote any of the races. They do however, promote the Chase often.

Also, this series has been called the minor league for the Cup series, but not so much these days...more like the mini-Cup series. A look at the results of the final race, you'll see that 9 our of the top 10 are full time Cup drivers. Unless they make major changes to the cars so that the Cup teams can't use any data for testing, things are not going to change. But I think the promotional thing is what is the worst.

This season's Nationwide car couldn't be much different from a COT. I think yesterday's attendence was due more in part to the foregone conclusion of the N'wide Championship and Rivalry Week in the NCAA.

Every race that I've seen this year has had at least a respectable crowd. Between the sick economy and the tracks overbuilding seating to suit the boom years the levels are actually close to what they were in the "good old days".

I agree that the economy has a lot to do with it. The overbuilding of stands also has a major part. The fact is that NA_CAR made their way into these markets on fire, everyone had to have a piece of the pie. But now NA_CAR racing has gone cold on the minds of the new fan base and new markets.

Yeah it was pretty sad. I think a lot of it is the fact that the title was already locked up and it hasn't exactly been an action packed season. Sad because it was a pretty good race for the most part.

Agreed. I like the racetrack itself in the current configuration. It has proven to have action all around the track. This is actually the first Homesttead race I have watched in the last few years. Homestead races reminded me of another old race track I been to before, the old Atlanta track.

I agree, the banking change made good results. I hope more tracks learn from this.

I attended the very first Cup race at Homestead --- I damn near fell asleep in the stands.

It was so bad, the only real action was watching BigE play bumper tag with the pace car.

As for sell-outs, please remember, all tickets can be sold, but the actual attendance could be smaller.

Not according to several websites. Incidentally, Vegas claimed a sell-out this year, too.
Websites don't go to races. I do .19 times at Loudon.
Full every time. This is the only Big time game up here, and it seems people are hungry for Big time racing,no matter what websites say.
Happy Thanksgiving!!

The progressive banking really added some excitement to that track. I went to the first Cup race there as well... what a snoozer. The good runs from Martin, Andretti and Stewie (who won the race) were the only things that saved that race.

As for attendance at Nationwide races, I think most of the companion races did have bad audiences. There were plenty of people at the Cup race. South Florida is a great market for racing, that's why ARCA just added a race at Palm Beach.

Not sure how many people were at the Nationwide race at Southern California, but that race was a barn burner and everyone who wasn't there that could've been missed out.
