What happens if...

I've been curious and I've been playing this scenario out in my mind and in racing games, what happens if two cars were to cross the line at exactly the same time (excluding certain manufacturers stuff) ? I mean, the interval between them is 0.000 meaning none, they both crossed the finish line at the same time. Then how would we decide who the winner is, by most laps led between the both ? By point standings ? By Qualifying order ? By who has the first name between the two of them in alphabetical order ? Very interesting rule I think we need to look into.

The odds of that happening is slim to none. But if it did. I would go by the points either Championship ro owner points.

Might depend on just who the drivers are. If ya know what I mean ;) :D Just kidding! We may never know

I remember reading that this HAS in fact happened in IROC where qualifying was determined by previous finishing order or something.Cant remember excactly how the winner was determined or even where I read it now.Almost certain that Ricky Rudd was one of the two drivers involved.....not sure but I think Terry Labonte was the other one?Any IROC historians on here?

I am almost certain that if that ever happened it would go by who led the most laps! If they both lead the same amount that would be very odd and I have no idea what would happen

I though they would go back to who the lead the lap before the finish.

It's determined by which owner pays off Na$car the most money.

What if they're both tied in points ?
Then I bet they would go by, who led the most laps of the two...

What if they had led the same amount of laps ? We gotta consider every factor here !

Then they would say who won the most races...who led the most laps of those races.

I think that they would go to who recorded the fastest lap that lap, and then back until one of them was slower...

I think i head that from BP on ESPN like 5 years ago. I have no idea what the situation was, but i'm pretty sure that was the rule

I just called Bob Selig and he said its a tie. hehe
lol

But this time it counts

Happy 29 - you ask the most interesting questions! :)

I would think it would go by most laps led, then by points, then after that, who knows?!? Maybe there would be some kind of "tie" situation, where they'd split the $ winnings and each get credit for "winning" the race points-wise. It could work, ya never know...:)

If two cars took the checkers at the EXACT time and GPS declared it an absolute tie, then Nascar will go back and see who led the previous lap and declare that driver the winner. Im almost 100% sure it works this way.

No, I'm saying what if the leader crashed, the two drivers dueling it out did not lead any laps, they're virtually tied in points and they cross the finish line at the same time.

Or both of us.....in another post I even agreed with Happy! Maybe your lenient and forgiving nature is a bad influence on me!

Man,I miss Paul!

I think I've seen this question asked before on a racing tv show & believe the answer was they would break the tie by who led more laps??? But I do know that a tie in the point standings is broken my most wins.
