What is Mark Martin whining about?

Are drivers not supposed to pass anymore? If anyone should be pissed I think it should be Kenseth. At least I would be pissed if my teamate ran me down onto the apron.

If I were Kenseth I too would be mad, especially since he is leading the points, and is his partner.

I think most of this stems from the weak definition of 'teamate' in NASCAR....

If they were really on the same 'team', Mark should have been clearing traffic for his teamate since Kenseth is the points leader. But since every driver has different sponsor, every driver has pressure to win...so that blows the whole teamate concept out the window...

Sure, most of the teams help for the first 3/4 of the race, but it's dog-eat-dog under 50 laps....and quite frankly that's how it should be.

Guys should leave their team plans in the garage and race on the track. This whole thing reeks too much of the Gentlemen's Agreement in it's hazy-ness....A real teamate would gladly (or maybe be forced to) relinquish his spot for a teamate who has a better chance at winning the race/championship....

Personally I like everybody racing everybody!

This is like watching the mother in law drive the old '67 Fairlane over a cliff for me.Both these guys are favorites of mine.OBJECTIVE as is possible,I think Matt did push the issue a little hard when passing Mark.Mark is pretty much a known quantity and likely would have given Matt the position if he determined Matt had the faster car.Matt should have known this and been just a bit more patient,IMO.

Of course it was a bad move for Mark to 'vent' a little on Matt after the race...and certainly cant fault Matt for passing him, even if Matt did rush it a little.Really a hard call as a fan of both.

My opinion is that Mark was already upset that he had a decent car but was trapped a lap down. So when Kenseth blew by him it was almost like a slap in the face, and then he took some of his frustrations out on Kenseth...

How do we even know Mark is whining?
He did no post race interview from what I can find.

I think Mark was mad at the fact he had a top five car untill Newman gave him a shot to the tire and Kenseth was banging him from the rear.

He had a top five car but ran out of gas on the first stop.....
he just vented...

GOOD FOR HIM

I heard last week that Martin is a part owner of Kennesth's car-never knew that before. Does anybody have more info?

Will Martin be fined for that push on pit lane? I'll bet so.

On the entry list mark is listed as the owner. This may be partly to spread out the ownership of all the roush cars. It is probably similar to Jeffy and Jimmie.

I was disappointed in Mark all weekend...don't know what the hell has gotten into him? Watched my tape of the race last night & tonight just to be sure...there was nothing wrong with Matt's pass. Matter of fact, Matt got a run on Mark & Mark forced him down onto the apron. Matt let his feelings known over the scanner too when Mark hit him on pit road. (I can't believe it, that a$$hole hit me) LOL!

Like Matt said, "I thought we were supposed to be racing out there. Don't understand why Mark is po'd at me." I'm glad to see Matt with a little fire in him. He races better that way. Hasn't seemed to me that Matt has ever raced that way in Winston Cup yet. That may be the difference in winning the championship this year, or finishing 2nd four times like Mark has.

Saturday, Kurt helped Mark run to the top 5 in the IROC race only to see Mark desert him. Kurt was trying to pass Newman for 2nd & Mark starting pushing Newman & Kurt couldn't make the pass. Then Harvick was making a run on Kurt for 3rd & Mark helped Kevin past Kurt. These IROC cars run just like plate cars & you need a push to get by someone. If Mark would have stayed with Kurt, they could have maybe had a run at 1st & Mike Bliss (Bliss was only about 20 car lengths ahead of Newman)...turns out Kurt finshed 3rd & Mark finshed 5th (serves him right).

Mark also started the nasty wreck that took out Bobby Labonte, Mike Wallace & Johnny Benson. He forced the #41 into the #10 when he ran out of race track. Basically he overdrove the car coming into & out of turn 3.

17 fan, I couldn't agree more. Kenseth is one helluva driver, and this his championship to lose, but I can also see the fact about Mark. If I was in NASCAR, I wouldn't care who I helped or deserted... Racing isn't a sport to go out and make friends.. its to go out and win at all costs. Thats how racing use to be, and thats how it should be. None of this letting people have laps back, none of this helping teammates for 5,000 laps... just get your ass in the car and drive it until the wheels fall off! Its the only way to race!

Profound comment for a guy who's a fan of a driver that got half his restrictor plate wins because he had the #15 buried under his rear for 500 laps. :D

But I agree with you, JJ did the right thing IMO, & so did Matt...that was for a postion & if the caution came out...may have gotten the lap back?

During the IROC though, Mark could have had a chance for the win. His & Kurt's cars were hooked up together, but he was hell bent on not helping Kurt...so he got the finish he deserved.

To tell ya the truth, I dont agree with what Jr and Waltrip does... and now everybody is stopping it. If you didn't notice, during the Pepsi 400, a driver would always pull up between the 2... leaving them by themselves, but Jr found his way to the front. He can do it without the 15.. we all know that.

Anyways, seeing that your a big Kenseth fan, I need a little help from ya. I'm meeting Matt next month, what could I get him to sign? Think of something pretty cool, not just a diecast or hat...etc.. something pretty kickass!

Not sure...only thing I can think of is if you can get a hold of the Smirnoff Ice poster of Matt's car. I saw it on display at Matt's fan club store in Cambridge...but I didn't see any for sure. I've heard that Team Caliber was going to make a die cast of the car, then they weren't because Smirnoff considers those children's toys & they are promoting responsible drinking & now I hear they may be making one after all.

I have a pic of him at Dells Speedway after a win scanned in on my computer...he looked like he was 10 years old. Or I've another scanned pic of him at Jefferson Speedway with my kids. Could send them to ya!

what the hell is Mark's problem....not only is Matt his teammate......but Mark is part owner on the 17....he has the same deal on that car as Gordon does on the 48......stupid stupid stupid

I missed this part of the race. What exactly did Kenseth do wrong? From what I hear, Mark's just mad for no reason.

Cant blame these guys, they are racers. Racers are out there to win, regardless if the person they have to beat are teammates or not. Mark is a racer, Matt is a racer, they had an altercation on the track but Im sure it was all smoothed out by Monday morning. No biggie.

Hey bud_stud, a Metallica CD would be a pretty cool thing to have Matt sign, I've read he's a big fan of them.

Make sure he signs the picture of 'Lars'. He named his cat after him.
