Hi everyone i have a question? I think i saw this on another message board if it's been asked here before i'm sorry to post it again.

What is the best race you've seen on tv or in person?

The best race I ever saw in person -- mmm, can there be multiple answers?

The first night race at Daytona
DaleJr's first Busch win
DaleJr's first Cup win

On TV ---
Big E's Daytona 500 win
Little E's 2001 win at Daytona

TRL, yer showin' yer avatar in yer answer! :)

This is kind of a hard question to answer. One race that we saw in person that was good and it had to be good or we would have left was the spring race at Martinsville some years ago. Our seats were under the covering and next to the last row. Great seats for a summer race, but this spring, the temps were a bit on the chilly side and where we were sitting, the wind made it almost unbearable. We were bundled up and the headphones helped, but what kept us there was the action on the track. This is a race that Rusty Wallace was dominant, but he didn't win, thanks to Bobby Hamilton for a payback. Oh, I believe that Mark Martin ended up winning because of pit strategy.

As for TV, I'd have to say that any Bristol race with Big E and DW fighting it out.

Wow, that's a hard one. Too many options. As a kid I watched a lot of races at Riverside and Ontario. That's the best for me because a lot of those legends are either gone or retired. Today, it's any race I get to attend.
There have been some televised in the past ten years that I did not attend that kept me out of my seat...:D

2001 IROC at Daytona. Big E got pushed into the wall just prior to the flag stand. He had the metallic green car and after several trips to the pits under caution the car was half green, half blue tape. Then a couple of laps after the restart Eddie Cheever drove him down into the grass going into 1, still don't know how he made the turn. Don't recall who won, we were all watching E spin Cheever out on the back stretch on the cool down. Then when they parked on pit road Big E strode down to Cheevers car, pushing officials out of the way. Got to Cheever and put him in a headlock and gave him a noogie, laughing his a** off. 2 days later,,,,

Best 'Cup race I've seen was Sonoma in '92. Ernie Irvan got black flagged for jumping the start from the front row, and came to pass the entire field and win. Otherwise I'll never forget a duel at Stockton 99er Speedway between two '55 Chevys, one with a V-8 and the other with a six. The V-8 car had the edge down the straightaway but the six-banger had him passed by the time they left the turn. They went at it like that for twenty laps in the feature before the V-8 guy slid off the berm on the final turn.

I 'member that. Me and my dad were laughing about it...
I believe D.J. won.

Kevin Harvick sweeps at Daytona International Speedway! :beerbang::beerbang::beerbang::beerbang:

I'm only in my 20's and have not been to that many races the best races i've seen in person are either the iroc races at indianapolis i was not at the first one where arie had his big wreck and i was not at the 2001 iroc race at indianapolis but other than that i was at every iroc race there.

And also the 2007 nationwide - busch race at irp that i went to was pretty good i think with 15 laps to go jason leffler was in 3rd and he passed reutimann and either greg biffle or carl edwards to win that was toyota's 1st win in the cars.

Also i've been to some pretty good races at the local short - dirt track in danville illinois it's called vermilion county speedway hope i spelled that right i think ken schrader races there once a year i think tony stewart used to race there a long time ago. Schrader races in 1 of the big late model races they have at danville i think.

Also i went to a local short track at boswell indiana they put on some pretty good shows there.

Now the best races i've seen on tv or on tape or dvd are probably some of the talladega and daytona races prior to the restrictor plates being put on the cars some of the daytona 500s in the 1980's were really good i think some of those races had 30 or 40 lead changes in them or more.

Also the 1983 84 and 86 july talladega races were real good.

I think in the 86 july talladega race that bobby hillin won i think 26 cars in the field led that race.

Also the 2000 fall talladega race that dale won his last win i thought was a really good race.

Speaking of that race this 1 person i talk said she didn't like the package the cars used at the time you know the thing on the roof of the cars which allowed the cars to go you couldd go all the way to the back like dale jarrett and bobby labonte and bill elliott did and than come all the way back up front in no time she said she didn't care for that.

Martinsville on October 15, 2001

It was my first live race. They got rained out on Sunday, so they had to race on Monday. That was cool with me because it was my birthday. It wasn't so cool with my boss when I didn't go to work on Monday, but he got over it. Ricky Craven won the race, which was cool because I really always liked him. He was a good driver and a good guy. My favorite driver, Jeff Gordon, just about sewed up his 4th title when Tony Stewart blew up his motor with about 100 laps to go. Jeff just hung out in the top ten for the rest of the race to avoid a DNF and just about sinch the title. I couldn't have asked for much more than that.

in person:

1997 winston 500 at tallagega on mothers day weekend. we camped all week long to be rained out sunday and monday. We went back on mothers day weekend and watched mark martin win the fastest 500 mile race in nascar history and the first caution free race in talladega history

2001 food city 500 won by elliott sadler in the woods bros #21 followed by john andretti in the petty enterprises #43. just like old times.

to many to count

guess BMS night race when DE turned Terry Labonte
or a couple of years before that when DE got black flaged to the back twice only to come back and push terry Labonte across the finish line
or may be the Atlanta race when Allen K> won the championship
or maybe it was the fall at Daga when DE can for the back to win in the last 2 laps
hell i don't know
i've been to so many races i really can't remember the best one

I'm thinking the first night race for the All Star race. Kyle Petty and Davey Allison crossing the finish line in a sea of sparks, with Allison winning the race by inches upside down. Heck, Davey couldn't even go to victory lane because he was slightly injured in the wreck.

You gonna take me up on my offer for free tix to the US Open or not?

I guess not?

Sometimes, people think of great finishes as a great race. In the end, the winner is what counts.

For me, one of the best races I've seen from start to finish was the fall race at Charlotte in 2000. It was a very cool day and there were over 40 lead changes just at the S/F line. Bobby Labonte won the race. Another good one start to finish was one of the Talladega races, I think the second race in 1993. A bunch of lead changes in that one too.

As far as best finishes, there are so many I can think of. The '84 Pepsi 400, the '86 "spring" Richmond race, the '91 (I think) Valleydale 500 at Bristol where Ernie Irvan and Davey Allison were within a few feet at the line, the '99 summer Bristol race where Sr. knocked TL out of the way, the '01 Atlanta race where Harvick edged Gordon with 5 guys racing for the lead in the last 10 laps, and the last 400-mile race at Darlington where Ricky Craven edged Kurt Busch for the win.

Hard to say which is the best one I've seen in person. I've seen most of my races at Bristol since '92, saw three races at Atlanta in the mid and late 70's, and one at Charlotte in 2000.

My favorite races I've seen live were in 85 and 86 when Elliott was on his 4 in a row win streak at Michigan.

Favorite TV races were when Elliot came back from 2 laps down under green flag conditions and won at Talledega and the Craven/Bush battle at Darlington a few years back.

Another good race or races i've watched on tv were the michigan 500 it was a cart indycar race 1 of my favorite races.

The michigan 500 was ran at brooklyn michigan on the oval the cup cars use.

They run 100 more miles 50 more laps than the cup series races there.

There were some years where the pole speed was well into the 230 mph zone i think mario got the pole there once and he ran 234 mph.

In the late 90's cart came up with this new rules package on ovals called a hanford device it was somewhat similar to what nascar used at talladega and daytona in 2000 and 2001.

In 1998 at michigan they had 68 lead changes plus more than that over on the backstretch or all over the track. And than i think either at michigan or california 1 of those 2 races i think it was in 1999 they had 74 lead changes almost everyone in the field had a chance to win.

And they would run in a huge pack similar to nascar at daytona and talladega.

That was the first night all-star race, in 1992. But Davey did not cross the line upside down. He almost went over, but didn't.

I forgot to mention the '92 Hooters 500 in Atlanta. Another really good one.
