...people that can't say, "Gentlemen Start Your Engines" properly? No one ever says it right. Matthew McConaughey is the only one that has said it right in a long time IMHO. We need more people like him saying the most famous words in auto racing.

jgkk, I'm so mesmerized by your avatar that I've plum forgotten what I wanted to say. :)

Oh yeah, now that it's not right there in front of me, it's coming back. These words have been uttered by just about everyone, all the way down to the local tracks, but the person that I remember them most by are from Mary Hullman to start the Indy 500. I honestly believe that is where the practice started, but I'm probably wrong, and if so, someone here will let me know.

Having said that, it doesn't matter to me how it's said, just that it is said. Reminds me of an airshow that I attended many years ago when one of the announcers was one of the pilots of the show and he was announcing another pilot's show. He always pronounced the word "engine" as "enjine" with a long "i" as in "I". It added to the effect of the show and I always thought, how would it be reacted to if some grand marshall said, "Gentlemen, start your engiiiiines!"

My only regret is that I missed Pammies call to arms. :)
 
Terry Bradshaw did it best for the start of the Daytona 500, 2001!! :)

I don't really care how they say it. There's no hard and fast rule. But I do agree with buckaroo's comment about Mary Hullman.

On the other hand, some of the Anthem renditions are almost offensive to me. Some performers seem to create their own melody.
 
This last Anthem has been the worst I have ever heard.

Who in the cat hair are the Tiki Hut Girls. Besides the butt avatar was the one I was talking about. Nothing wrong with the one that is there now. Or that I can see.

There was nothing wrong with the previous "butt" avatar either. You'd see more arse at the race track...in the stands and the infield. You might even see some breasties too if you're lucky. Get over it! Stop whining! lol

I can tell that you are going to be a royal pain in my backside! :rolleyes: And, as for your inference that I am not a TRUE race fan just because your bare ass avatar offended me, then you need to just move on somewhere else. I've been to plenty of races, and I haven't seen any bare tits and ass in the stands at the racetrack. Maybe in the infield and the campgrounds, but not in the grandstands. You need to take a chill pill and go with the flow around here and quit trying to be a standout pain in the ass. :mad:

No, I'm not going to be a royal pain in the ass. I am only an ass to those that are asses. If you have a problem with me, take it private. I don't think it is necessary to waste space here reprimanding me. Do you? As for bare asses, the avatar had a thong on...lol!!!! It wasn't a completely bare ass. Have you ever been to a beach? There are girls wearing bikinis that show more ass than my "butt" avatar. You must get offended a lot. Anyway, it was quickly uncovered and then quickly covered right back up. What's the big deal? Like yourself, I have been to plenty of races. I have seen girls at the tracks that show more ass than my avatar...stands and infield. And like you said, you've seen it in the campgrounds and infield. I guess it's all a part of racing eh? As for me needing to take a chill pill, I don't think that is necessary. I think you need to take one. You are the one "crying and whining" over an avatar. I have been going with the "flow" around here. I was the one being "attacked" by others about my avatar. Therefore, I had to defend myself. I was going with the flow of what OTHERS were saying. If anyone is being a pain in the ass, it is those that are "whining" about my previous "butt" avatar. Hell, I don't even have it on here any more. You took it off and I left it off. Leave things be now. I am not the one continuing this conversation. I am trying to end it. Let it go!

And by the way, I find your comments very offensive. Could you please stop making these negative posts that are directed toward me? I don't appreciate them. I am serious. If you have a problem with me, take it private.
