So I read this article today and I also read this article, and honestly I don't think NASCAR should be building up a International presence.

What they should be doing instead is focusing more on the regional series such as K&N, Modifieds and the All-American Series. I mean if you go to NASCAR.com, there's barely any mention of these lower series, it's all about the Big Three, Sprint, Nationwide, Camping World.

From the article about the Mods being in trouble, it's kinda obvious that NASCAR isn't giving that series the support that it needs, and they're not exactly giving the support to local tracks either.

Maybe instead of trying to make inroads into F1 territory, NASCAR should shore up it's regional series and local tracks so that we can continue to see new talents climb through the ranks up to the Sprint/Nationwide/Camping World series.

How could you find anything on Nascar.com ??

I agree with shoring up local/regional series. But, I also see the international sponsor field being desirable, also. NASCAR needs some "new money" to step in.

They have pissed off enough of the fans here that's why have to go overseas now.

Nascar spends 10s and probably 100s of millions of dollars a year for the experts to tell them to within the Nth degree how any move made will benefit them or hurt them so that is way over my pay grade but I think any International exposure couldn't be anything but good for Nascar.

While an International presence may be good for NASCAR, it doesn't really address the problem that the regional series are having.

Sometimes I think K&N, Mods and All-American should just split off into their own organization. Apparently Humphrey Wheeler is trying to put together a collation of short track owners and drivers, so that's a step in the right direction.

Well the Mods pretty much have...Its called the VMRS series and they put on better shows than Whelen and the car counts are higher. Quite a few of the Whelen guys cross over too, at this point I'd much rather watch the VMRS for Mods.

Ooo thanks for telling me that, I'll have to check it out.

I read recently that the purses for the lower series aren't keeping up with the increasing costs (like the national series are now seeing) of fielding cars. It's not like most of them have sponsors to fund their operations so it's getting really difficult.

Honestly some of the purses don't even cover the costs of running the races, unless you win.

I think the average K&N, Canadian Tire, or ARCA race on a short track is about $5,000-7,000 to win. So it's definitely not enough. I've been to a lot of K&N and ARCA races at short tracks with nearly empty grandstands this year though. Canadian Tire still usually comes close to selling out though. If they aren't selling any tickets they can't really afford to increase the payouts. More fans need to go. People like to complain about the series, but nobody goes and actually spends money to see those races in person.
I went to the K&N race at Brainerd, MN this year. I think me and my dad were literally the only fans there for the NASCAR race. For the second half of the race, in the bleachers we were sitting in it was literally only us and a spotter for one of the K&N teams... They had spectator drag racing going on at the same property (1 ticket got you into everything), there were people there for that, I think nobody had a clue there was even a NASCAR race going on. It was pathetic. Wasn't rainy either, just a little cold.

It makes sense for NASCAR to evaluate both future expansion and the opportunities future drivers have. I think driver development is key to long term success.
