Hi everyone,

Thought this would be a good spin-off from the local track thread:

I currently have taken time off for three races this year:

Charlotte for the All Star Race
Spring Dover Race
Fall Bristol Race-1st time going to Bristol, pretty pumped!

Ill be sure to post some pictures from race for everyone. (Disclaimer-I dont seem to get as close to the action as some of you get lol)

So what tracks do you plan to visit this year? And feel free to offer advice to people going to tracks you have been to before.

Are you camping or staying @ a motel/hotel? If you're camping I might be able to give you additional info on that experience @ Bristol. If you are just staying in the area I can give you some info on free parking.

I'll be camping. Purchased my first inverter generator as an X-mas gift to myself so I feel I need to get some uses out of it.

Will probably go the Martinsville for both Truck races, the Spring Cup race and the only race in the Chase. Will be there for sure for the Late Model Stock Car race.

Richmond for the K&N race and the Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown.

We'll be camping @ The Landing. Where are you staying there?
Haven't yet decided. Since the tickets weren't on sale for the fall race last time I checkedI figured it was to early to sign up for a camping spot. I also have no idea which lot I will choose. I dont have an RV, it will just be me and few friends with a truck and tent. so which ever lot is open to tents.

Would love to go to Martinsville, to bad the race is always during my two busiest times of the year work wise....one day.

I had hot passes last year :growl:

right now I am 80% sure I will attend the Nov Texas race weekend. 20% sure the wife knows about it.

There's a reason I am not attending the Richmond race....nothing I will admit to online/on valentines day:lilangel:

Tenting limits your options there somewhat. A campground called Farmer Bob's is a good place to go. We've camped there a few times. They allow tenting and they have plenty of room. They also have a store and hot showers on site.

Here's a link to their website if you wanted to check it out.

Eldora truck race, and 3 more as yet undecided, maybe Brickyard again, Martinsville, Bristol again, Homestead, whatever fits in our schedule.

You've got two there without an again next to them. They'd be my first choice then.

I wanna go to Eldora, but imagine it will be crazy! The last inaugural race (Kentucky) I went to was an absolutely miserable time.

Its been years since martinsville and never been to homestead but the wife is still working so I have to schedule around that.

The wife and I were there and had a great time, stayed nearby, went early, stayed late until the traffic cleared up but can see why some people had it rough.

We went all out because it was my sons first race. We bought a package that allowed us to sit on top of the building off turn 4 at pit road entrance. First, we left about 11:00, hotel was a half hour from the track. We got their about 3:00. Our packages included passes to park in the infield. Because of lack of parking, they let people that didn't pay for that service park there, so by the time we got there it was full, so had to park in BFE. We get there, walk around the trailers, etc. Go down the escalator under the track and to the garage area, walk up and down pit road, and then decide to grab a bite to eat. The package included catered food and drinks all race long in that building. Then we go up top, and its PACKED. They wayyyy over sold it. No seats to be found. A couple guys left and set their stuff on their seats to save them. After about an hour, I said screw that. Moved their stuff so my wife and son could sit. I ended up having to stand the entire race. 3 port a pottys in the entire infield area. That was it. Mind you, it was hot as hell, and after the race when we were leaving, the escalater going up was broke down. So had to walk up a butt load of steps. No big deal for me, but it was with a whiney 9 year old that had been in 90-100 degree heat all day. When we got up top, wasn't a drink of water or soda to be found. Every place was sold out. Then made the 2 mile trek back to our car. I'm sure theres other things I am forgetting. Lol

I open with the Trucks at Rockingham, then the Darlington weekend. We'll probably add the fall M'ville when those go on sale, and I may sneak up to Charlotte for the spring N'wide race (the only event there that isn't at night).

Dear god, I don't even know what to say. It def sounds like the exact opposite of the current Dover races.

Hopefully Bristol again, or another good southeast track like Martinsville or Darlington, but chances are just both Texas races as usual.

Granted, it was their first race, but still, it was too bad. No excuses. No parking. People couldn't get in. People ended up just parking on the side of the highway and walking to the track. It was ridiculous.

Luckily, my son had a great time, so it was well worth it. He met both Waltrips, Harvick, Rutledge Wood, Kurt Busch, Larry Mac, and Hammond. He got to touch Kyle Busch, his favorite driver, so that made it worth it for him. LOL Plus Kyle won the race. First off, we were standing there watching the crews push the cars back to the garage from pit road after the race, and several crew members from Kurts crew, Kyles crew, Gordons crew, Johnsons crew, and about 4 other cars come over to him and tossed him some lug nuts from the pit stops. Then once Kyle pulled into victory lane, we were right there for the celebration. Stood there for a bit. Watched the SPEED interview with Kyle and all that stuff, then on the way out, my son got to touch Kyle LOL, so that made his trip. Then when the crew was pushing Kyles car out of victory lane, one of the crew members walking by did a double take and seen my sons hair cut. He had a #18 shaved into the back of his head because we were going to buzz his hair off anyways. So for fun, we kept it long until the race was over. But the crew member seen his hair cut, stopped pushing the car, come over to my son and put his Kentucky Speedway Inaugural Victory Lane hat that they got for winning the race on his head. Plus he was on SPEED for his haircut as well. So overall, he had one helluva first NASCAR race. I told him not to get spoiled, because that stuff just does not happen every race. LOL

Wow thats quite a first race experience. Mine was sseveral years ago and I bought tickets low in turn 3 at Dover, couldnt see much but thought it was the coolest eventI had ever been too. Soooo i'd say your son def beat me in first race experience lol.

Wait.... Wait for it.

Anticipation is killing me.

Fontana !!!

I am going to Cali this year and I actually got mad that the second Fontana race doesnt exisit anymore, thought it be a great opportunity to go.

Inaugural races are cool just because it's the first time - but there's always going to be flaws. They often don't know what they're in for.... especially a race like Kentucky. They can pretty much bank on their attendance, over the next two or three years, falling to half of what it currently is. That track doesn't offer anything to the sport.

The Inaugural Baltimore Grand Prix was a nightmare. I've been to countless Orioles games and a couple Ravens games -- traffic at those venues were child's play compared to this clusterfluck.

One person's snoozefest is another's dream weekend. I've been to so many races in person that I've heard other fans trash that only saw it on TV. I don't know that I've ever been to a race that I haven't had a good time. There are tracks that I have no desire to travel to but I'm sure if I went I'd have a great time.

I've been to a few races that were horrible. Last year's big race at South Boston was so bad it was snarkworthy.
