what was behind that tape?

As I watch the race again I noticed some of jr.'s pitcrew has black tape on the back of their firesuits. Anybody know what's under that black tape?

When I saw that, my first thought was that they had extra tape in case they needed it? Like, another crew member could grab it real quick and tape something. Anyone else have comments?

I think they had something on there that t.v. or budweiser did not want anybody to see

I dunno, maybe it was tape to use to tape on the sheet metal to the hole in the radiator

That was exactly what I thought it was.

It was a quick way to have more tape available to cover the nose of the car. Seconds count on pit road. Running over to the wall to get more would take an extra second or two.

I do sheetmetal work. I often very lightly put short lengths of tape on the front of my jeans to use in the course of my work when I don't have enuf hands to hold something in place AND tear a piece off a roll.
