What we appreciate about NASCAR

Well, We all have complained about NASCAR and how the sport is terrible or how the sport is dying, hell, I even made a thread about a dream point system, but lets talk about what we appreciate and is thankful for the sport is. I'm going to start, I appreciate NASCAR for 11 years of fandom from watching my favorite driver, Jeff Gordon, win at martinsville and me racing with him in every video games. I miss you Jeff, but even through the bad NASCAR has put all of us through there are still things, we appreciate about the sport. So what do you appreciate and love about NASCAR

This sport is awesome. I love it all! ....but the Cup driver limitations in Truck and Xfinity in addition to the bull**** threat of crate motors in Trucks is pushing my envelop.

I got into it when I was in my 20's when Dale Sr. and Gordon, Elliott, Rusty, the Bodines, the Labontes and those guys were slugging it out. I had friends who got me into it. We went to races and watched it on TV together. Then in the late 90's-early 2000's I lost interest. I moved to an area that didn't have cable and lost all track of it. Then I had a son who decided from a toddler that he loved cars and we got into it again---the whole family, wife included. She's probably now the loudest, craziest person on Sunday at my house. It's hilarious how mad she gets sometimes.

Then some of my old friends had kids who did the same thing (got interested and bugged Dad to go) so as of about 2012 we all started going back to Pocono once a year for the 2nd race as a bit of a reunion. The same whack-jobs I used to roll with in the day. Now we all have gray beards and big bellies and it's still a hoot, and we can't put the beers away like before (a good thing) but our kids ended up bringing us all back into it. For these reasons, I barely care what they do with the rule changes and the other nonsense NASCAR does. It's all about history and good times for me at 51 yoa. I hope we can all do it for another 20. Sundays are an event for us, at home or at a track. There are older guys than me who can't stand the way things have gone and I get that too.

NASCAR has made some bogus changes over the last few years, but I think they've nailed it on the last few (stages, playoff points, Cup limitations in the lower series').

I had not heard about crate motors for trucks but I think it is eventually something that will come to cup in order to attract other manufacturers and contain costs.

I had an absolute blast as a Nascar fan as going to the track was something eagerly anticipated and and the races on ESPN were must see TV. The racing was enjoyable and the series being less uptight about everything was something I also liked. If today's fans have half the I did they will have a guaranteed good time. As far a today goes I like to see some of the on track battles and I can't really think of anything else at the moment.

how about crate trucks
right off the lot
add roll cage and cut the muffler off
that should save alot of money

How does going to a spec crate motor help attract other manufacture's? I would think it would run more off than attract.

They have a lot of bells to try and un-ring.

It has been such a huge part of my life, I was absolutely obsessed with racing throughout my whole childhood and I'm still a big NASCAR fan to this day. I don't think that will ever change. I have so many great memories and experienced so much joy thanks to racing and especially NASCAR.

How awesome it is to watch these cars. To see 850 horses in a big chassis is pretty baller honestly, no other racing series has cars that can bump and bang like these.

I would say without a doubt it's the most aggressive form of motorsports on the planet and I love it

I was tiring of the sport ........... until I discovered that Blaney doesn't do burnouts !!! now the excitement is back !!!!

I could not agree more with this.Nascar has the ability to bring the cost down to attract more manufacturers which will bring more desperately needed fans.

That's assuming that manufacturer brand loyalty is important to that prospective fan. I can only speak for myself. I'm a longtime fan of this sport and I couldn't care less about manufacturers.

"What I appreciate about NASCAR" (in no particular order)
The fact that they can get to 36 points paying races week end and week out and several just for the trophies races and put on a hell of a show, some better than others, but, none the less, keep me interested and very entertained.
The 40 bad ass 800+ HP push rod naturally aspirated Hotrods that are like no other motor sport that race each week.
The crews of these teams for making all this happen each week.
The sponsors for making it all possible.
The owners for sticking with it through thick and thin.
The drivers for risking it all to put on a show for the fans.
The fact that NASCAR is an all American sport started here by some pretty good visionaries.
The Tracks they race at for making it so pleasant to attend a race at their facilities.

Justto name a few of the reasons I like NASCAR. :D

The intensity and drama. Anything can happen and often does. We get to know these drivers and their back stories so it all plays into our own emotions as we watch a race. It's fun and unique.

Without the manufacturers, there is no sport...so I am not sure how that works.

Manufacturers won't walk away from this sport if they go crate motors--they will run....and never come back.

This is the essential hook that Nascar has, and most forms of modern racing lack. The sport is built around the principle of aggressive brass-knuckle competition between guys on the track, head-to-head. Leave the technological advancements to others, Nascar is all about creating a platform for on-track competition. More than any other sporting endeavor, I appreciate racers doing their craft against other racers. Lifestyle fans are fine, but that is not me.

Obviously without manufacturers there's no sport. I think you misunderstood my post. I don't root for manufacturers. It makes no difference too me if Ford, Chevy or Toyota wins a race. I was drawn to this sport by the races themselves and the drivers/personalities and the like. I know that there are diehard fans of manufacturers and that's great but it doesn't mean that everyone cares about what manufacturers are in the sport.

I agree. I don't care whose badge is on the front of the truck, or car.

I love NASCAR because it brought us Kenny Wallace

Sounds like a good meme to respond to a few posters with...

They run on oval tacks and we can see them all the way around

I went to Mid-Ohio to see the Indy cars last weekend
......this is how it went:
the cars are awesome, seeing them for 5 seconds as the pass is awesome
then laid back looked at sky, talked about paint drying with the person sitting next to me
2 minutes later.....5 seconds of seeing cars......did I say the cars were awesome
back to looking at phone checking email, thought about taking a nap

last road course I'll be attending
Bristol is next

I'd also like to add that 2017 has been one of the best seasons in a long time IMO. The racing has been good, the stages seem to be working, the BS cautions seem to be down (probably thanks to the stages), and I also like the variety of winners this year. We're only a little over halfway through the season and have already had more winners than we had in all of 2015.

They might or they may realize a crate motor with branded up valve covers is the way to go as there isn't much difference in the engines anyway. If a good spin is put on it I think it could work out.

hard to argue with success IMO.The one thing I like about NBC is their side by side coverage is large enough to see. I think if they read any social media they will gag Jabbaburton soon. I noticed they put him out in a turn at Watkins Glenn, and brought in another guy. it's a start.
