How will NASCAR react if Carl Edwards wins the Championship being winless in the Chase? He's basically having a Matt Kenseth 2003 type year that brought about the Chase to begin with. Sure, he won a race this year, back in March. Meanwhile, Tony Stewart sitting with three wins in the Chase is eight points back. What happened to rewarding those wins? I think that we are about to see some changes made again to the Chase after this season should Carl pull this off. I'm just saying.

I've been thinking of this situation as well. It doesn't promote winning as much as people would like. I think when NASCAR thought this up, they didn't want JJ comming from the back and winning 3 races for his 6th.

IMO, the win in the chase should have 10 bonus points behind it instead of 3. 3 is like a slap in the face. Give em at least 5.

Tony won the chase in 05 without winning during the chase races.

Personally I would like to see them do something to make the other 499 miles of a 500 mile race interesting rather than placing the emphasis on winning. Maybe if they awarded points in segments rather than on the last lap they would be a little more exciting.

I have an idea that will reward winning and promote better racing IMO
Nascar wants a 12 man chase then just give the top 12 in every race the points.
12 for the win 11 for second and so forth still give the bonus points.
And to keep ppl in the top 35 give them 1 point also.

True enough but he also won 5 races during that season. That wasn't exactly that Kenseth type year that I was talking about. NASCAR has placed such an emphasis on winning yet we might see a champion without a win in its playoff system. That's kind of a tough one to explain to someone that doesn't follow the sport all that closely.

Better yet start at bottom give 3 points for 12th and then up 1 per spot

I beleive the point system is working Better than anyone could have imagined.
It both places emphasis on Winning as shown by drivers "Falling out" of the points battle then making a comback by Winning AND penalizes drivers for having Bad runs. It may possibly penalize you more for having a Bad run then a good one is my only concern.

Check this out:

Finishing position,

Chicargo: Stewart 1st to Edwards 4th
Loudon: Stewart 1st to Edwards 8th
Dover: Stewart 25th to Edwards 4th
Kansas: Stewart 15th to Edwards 5th
Charlotte: Stewart 8th to Edwards 3rd
Talladega: Stewart 7th to Edwards 11th
Martinsville: Stewart 1st to Edwards 9th

Standings in Chase:

Chicargo: Stewart #1 to Edwards #4
Loudon: Stewart #1 to Edwards #4
Dover: Stewart #3 to Edwards #2
Kansas: Stewart #7 to Edwards #1
Charlotte: Stewart #5 to Edwards #1
Talladega: Stewart #4 to Edwards #1
Martinsville: Stewart #2 to Edwards #1

Both drivers have had and incredibly good Chase by Very different means and both drivers are at the top of the points using very different but effective strategys. Either way when it comes down to the end both drivers are going to have to " Put Up or Shut Up " and I think Edwards is running scared!

I like the point system it shows you can be at the top by running consistently or by Winning and overcoming Bad races. Good Job NASCAR.

5 bonus points for whoever is leading at each quarter of the race.

The system isn't really all that much different than its ever been. It still rewards consistency. The Chase idea is what screws up the system IMO.

See different strokes i think that it's bull chit that any driver can take 10 races get on a roll and totally wipe out 26 races for someone else

Isn't that exactly what the old system did? Reward consistency and wins ?

I'm not going to argue the "Old System" versus the "New System" what we have is what we race with.

I'm saying the new system works much better than I thought it would in our current Chase format ( everyone knows I'm not a fan of the Chase )
What makes me really like it is even though Edwards has been Mr Consistency Stewart after having TWO BAD runs in a row has been able to run him back down. That Proves it rewards Both Wining and Consistency.

See my point?

Ah more great ideas for that NASCAR series based solely on fan ideas:rolleyes:

Aren't we missing the real important issue, James Buscher is in contention for the truck title with no wins and missing a race:rolleyes:

Hey thats EXACTLY why I don't Like The Chase format!!!

Yes but I beleive the old points system made it easier to overcome a bad race. I,ll post a chart for both systems using percentage of points awarded for finishing position when I get some down time at home. I have it on my home pc.

As far as the chase, nobody outside the Top 10 in points after 26 races had a chance in hell of winning the Championship under the old system. Now, they do. I kinda like that. But as we saw last year, when Harvick was leading the points after 26 races, that wins ARE more important than consistent finishes. The points reset for The Chase sucked for Happy but made some other drivers happier.

What position did Tony enter the chase?

I'm guessing they'll f*ck the point system again, just like they've done since they implemented the Chase. It pretty much voids the accomplishments of the endeavors of past seasons.

Id like to see Shrub banished to the truck series for life.. with Target as his sponsor.
