What's cookin'

Yikes...

Presidential primaries? :p

Actually, I was in New Hampshire for the '96 primary, and followed all the candidates around. Well, all the Republican candidates. Wrote a Fear and Loathing type article about the experience, but Sassy magazine folded before it could get printed. :(

That having been said, I know diddly squat about NH cooking. Any recommendations, anyone? Any Ricky Craven fans want to help me out??

I'm thinking of going with a nice pasta dish. Haven't cooked my people's food in a while. New Hampshire, New York...close enough! :D

sounds good to me. I have never been to that part of the country. Bristol Motor Speedway is as far east that I have been.:p

boo, fish and chips with cole slaw. OR Lobster salad rolls or Clam rolls the old HOJO style.....all with cole slaw. If you decide on fish and chips, make the fish scrod or haddock PLEASE. Succotash NE style would be great too (NOT LIMAS, shell beans or Pintos).

PURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

No offense to New Hampshire dwellers, but that's one blandass part of the country! I mean, outside the ski slopes, which I've been on, and the presidential primary every four years (which was incredibly, spectacularly entertaining to me), the parts of NH that I saw -- and I visited several towns -- seemed economically and environmentally, well, depressed. Tons of fun during the primary, though!

Anyhow, been thinking...Loudon Lasagna?

I'm really, really not happy about making a whole, heavy, homemade lasagna (lotta work, the way I do it) for one person, though I'll probably do it just so I can call it that. How stupid is that?!

If not, I'll make what I like to call my "Mock Puttanesca", which is rigatoni with tomatoes, sausage, calamata olives, roasted red bell peppers, and plenty of cheese on top. Much easier, and still quite tasty. :)

I know. It's nothing at all like Pasta Puttanesca (named after a whore, btw!), but I seem to enjoy calling it that.

How about you? You need to start flexing some of your Looziana culinary muscles and show us what you've got! How 'bout it?

BOO, New England=Fresh Seafood!!!!!!! how bout some NE clam chowda to go with the fish and chips, lobster roll or clam roll. MMMMMMMMMMM

I deep fried a prime rib on labor day at work. It was better than I hoped it would. I injected it with Cajun Injector french onion grill. Two thumbs up

New Hampshire doesn't bring a lot of specific foods to mind. Just some little stuff you might get an idea from.

They produce a lot of maple syrup and maple products.

One of the largest cash crops is apples

They have a wild blueberry that is supposed to be the absolute best for muffins, pancakes and such.

For some reason, don't remeber why, I recall plum puddings being significant to the area, might be wrong on that one.

trivia Food Fact: the first potato ever planted in the U.S. was planted in Londonderry, NH in 1719.

Some of this is from a Bed and Breakfast cookbook that I have which lists the places by state. Coulbe why the foods are running more to the morning type stuff.:)

HS, who woulda thunk all that stuff came from NH!

Abooja, better yet, what are you brining to our Dover party?!?!? :) :chef:

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. :)

Tabasco: A deep fried prime rib?! Only in Louisiana! :p

Kat, I'd rather avoid the fried fish deal this time around. In fact, I might stay away from fish for another month at least! Never been a big fan of fish, unless it's fried, and if I ate fried fish as often as I'd like, I'd weigh 300 pounds. :D

Hmm...a New England breakfast sounds decent, it being a day race and all. Maybe I'll do that -- blueberry pancakes, maple syrup, home fried potatoes. That covers most every ingredient you mentioned, HS.

Then again, a big breakfast PLUS the mock puttanesca...not a good idea...

To heck with authenticity, I'm making me some I-talian food!!

Oops, almost forgot your question, HH...

Dover? Hmmm...I'm wondering if there will be time to cook anything trackside before the race. Or do you mean I should prepare something beforehand and bring it with me? I love the idea of tailgating, but grilling might take too long to clean up before the race. Especially since it's a day race (starts at 1 p.m., no?).

Grilled some kielbasa after the Pocono race one year. Do you plan on hanging out afterwards, or are you going straight home? My hotel is 50 miles away from the track, as you know, so I guess I shouldn't do any real partying until I get back there. You guys could always come over!!

Okay, getting ahead of myself here, I guess...too damn psyched!!! :D

Two words, booboo....disposable grill. Yer out in a parking lot, what is there to clean up? Paper plates etc, food wrappings all go in the trash, of which there will be plenty at a race. Ya get there early, ya fire that puppy up, ya grill you some dead animal, ya pitch all the mess away, and you go watch Ward win him a race. Sounds simple to me. :D

Wow, they make disposable grills?! You're not talking about that $25 number, the Smokey Joe, right? Intriguing concept...will have to look into that. Thanks for the tip! :)

I guess I can always just soak the coals after we're done and dump them somewhere safe (and legal).

Then again, I don't see myself waking up at 5 a.m. just to do all this. Might just make sandwiches.

Dead animal...Mmmmm........

(The old vegetarian in me just turned over in her grave.)

The disposable grills aren't the greatest cooking devices you will find, but for a single use they ain't all that bad. I didn't buy the one I used, so I have no idea on price. Besides, how much food could you and HH possibly need? Y'all skinny people don't pack it away like some of us do...

Good point. Thankfully, my eyes are much bigger than my stomach, as they say. I'll probably wind up eating a hotdog, and very little else.

And thanks for the compliment! :)

How about you, HH? What kind of chow do you like?

Yeah, Abooja, for a 1:00 race, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to have a major set up w/ the grill and all, unless you get there really really early. Now for an all-day tailgate for a night race....

For Dover we'll probably do snacks and sammiches. I've got tons of leftover paper plates, etc from this past weekend, so we're covered.

I was just kidding about the menu for Dover, just wanted to hear what you would cook if you really were putting on a spread. What is Delaware known for anyway????

Delaware bay oysters? Is it close enough to Philly to be big on cheesesteak sandwiches too? I have no friggin idea.

I'll tell ya what's cookin! Abjooa! That's what's cookin! Talkin bout that hottie up there in N.Y. struttin her stuff. Now THAT'S what's cookin!:growl: :lovewow:

B.C., you sweet talker, you...

Get your butt on up here and come tailgate with me and HappyHour! Two babes for the price of one, except she's bringing hubby along. Could be interesting...

I've clearly lost my mind entirely. Must've been the Wendy's. :satisfied
