What's in a name?

So what's the story behind your user name or screen name? Obviously, no one wants you to reveal anything too personal. And, oh yeah, I know, it's none of my business. But for those of you who can and are willing to tell us, what's the scoop?

Some user names here are self explanatory. Others are tougher to solve.

I go by "nascage" because I wanted a name that would combine two of my favorite sports - NASCAR and mixed martial arts (most mma fighters compete in a cage). It would be fun to see two NASCAR drivers take there differences on the track and settle them off the track - in a cage. We could call it "nascage". Kyle vs. Carl, Kyle vs. Brad, Tony vs. Aussies, Trevor vs. bugs, etc.

How about you?

[ be9ak7ts16 is the screen name killing this cat.
I see be9 = Bill Elliot and ak7 = Alan Kulwicki.
But ts16 has me stumped.
ts16 neither = Greg Biffle nor Ted Musgrave.
I know I'm gonna feel like an idiot once (and if) you tell me.]

kk=kasey kahne fan=fan 91=1991 or the year I was born, or his former number 9 is number 1

Mine's straight forward.

My twitter handle is @amarquis32 but that's not because of NASCAR (32 -- Maurice Jones-Drew, RB Jacksonville Jaguars)

Well my name on here pretty much explains itself but most of the time I use The Wicked One. Wicked is my favorite word.

Mine is plain and simple. I can never think of good creative names, and I'm not really a fan of any particular driver, so I took my name (which is actually my middle name, but that's what I usually go by), last initial and state abbreviation.

buckaroo has been my ID as well as my email addy for many years. My wife started calling me buckaroo a long time ago at the same time I called her Maynard. We ended up naming our dogs after those names with the male named Bucky (RIP) and May (still with us just barely) I've never kept my identity a secret and those who have corresponded with me also know me by what most people call me, CB

You called your wife Maynard?:D

Just remember hearing it on Talladega Nights and thought it would be a good one.

That comes from an old saying that I used way, way back. That's some good $%#^ Maynard.

Mines pretty easy too. My favorite number is 9, Bill Elliots number too, I love old mopars, and I'm a DH. I don't think I need to explain that.:D

For many years on here I was 4xchampncountin. I am a big Jeff Gordon fan and, of course, he had 4 championships and I was expecting more to come.

I had a problem logging in once and so I just created a new name as Benevolent One. I strive for benevolence on a daily basis. Of course I fall short regularly, but that doesn't mean I shouldn't keep trying, right?

Mystery solved! :p

I first used fury some time in around 1996 or 1997, I forget exactly. fury was the screen name of the programmer of an IRC utility I used, and I was an 11-12 year old kid who admired both the name and the programming. It kinda fit me, too, since I had/have a short temper. As kids usually do, I changed names like I changed underwear. I drifted over to a Quake 3 forum some time in 1998-99, which was the first time I ever registered to any kind of forum. I used the name fury when I signed up, and it's stuck with me since.

One of the regulars in that Quake 3 forum made a random post that assigned everybody another nickname with "fluff" in it. Mine happened to merge with the word to become flurffy, and people started calling me flurff for short. Amazingly enough, the name fury was often taken as the internet started catching on, so I would try to use flurff when I signed up for something, and sometimes even THAT would be taken. I ended up with flurffmeister as my secondary "if fury is taken, this'll probably work" name, because I'm not so good with remembering which numbers or symbols I tacked onto my name.

Funnily enough, last year I actually ran into the original guy from whom my screen name was inspired (well, stolen). He visits freenode IRC quite a bit (a community for programmers), and I happened to register the nickname fury there, so we used to (unwittingly) fight over connecting to the network as "fury". When I found out who it was, I took off the auto-kill line that I had set up to recover my name whenever I connected. Figured I shouldn't punish the guy for coming up with a great name. :beerbang:

Guess i always thought it was because you worked at a Florest....

I was a Dale Sr fan, and i saw Lap3Forever on a shirt and i just liked it.

You all got mine figured out. I've had this since I first signed up at the old forum for the Charlotte newspaper.

Actually I prefer watching ARCA races and have for the last 30 years. I've always wondered how Steele would have done in NASCAR if he wouldn't have crashed so hard in Bud's car.
