Trucks to test spec engine at Martinesville: Bill Davis Racing and Roush Fenway Racing each will test a truck at Martinsville Speedway for NASCAR on Monday. Davis said the teams will use a spec engine as NASCAR explores the possibility of making all the engines the same for the Craftsman Truck series at some point. "On the surface, it really looks good because of the cost reduction," Davis said of a spec engine in the truck series. "The only thing that concerns me, not only my operation but a lot of truck operations are very manufactured-dependent for sponsorship. I'm afraid if the manufacturer doesn't have his engine in there, it's a spec motor, is the attraction still going to be there?" Johnny Benson is scheduled to test for Bill Davis Racing. Travis Kvapil is scheduled to test for Roush Fenway Racing.(Roanoke Times)(6-23-2007)

spec engines? no way. Spec manufacturer engines? I'm fine with that.

Is this similiar to crate late model racing?

Well for starters, attendance is down, the purses suck, TV is limited to the Speed channel, most newspapers don't cover results, etc. Yes, I believe that is the best racing out there. But only the die hard care. If you strip away what little personality is left, the die hards go away, then, poof, gone.

Totally agree, let them run a spec manufacturer engine like Mag said. Yes this series is some of the best racing and needs more exposure.

yea, (9bout time somebody agreed with me), let toyota have a spec motor, chevy, ford, and dodge all have their respective spec motors. THAT is how you increase competition without killing a sport. This isn't your local irwindale or eldora or terra haute, nascar, this is a national touring series. So treat it as such and go to spec manufacture engines if you want anything good to happen.
