What's Shawna's next move?

Well according to BGNracing.com she is heading to the Busch Series, no sponsor yet tho and no race dates announced yet.
Here's part of the story....

"Shawna Robinson will likely forego competing on the Winston Cup circuit in 2003, and instead try to make her mark in the Busch Series. "I'm fortunate to be under contract to BAM Racing because that's the commitment we made at the beginning of the year," she said. "And, at the beginning of the year, my thoughts to them were 'Let's go Busch racing, and then towards the end of the year, let's do five Cup races and really grow this team.' Robinson remains under contract and is currently working with team officials to find sponsorship to compete in as many Busch events as possible in 2003."

More power to her. I hope she gets a decent team and she's doing more than riding around in circles out there.

From the word go, I thought the move to WC was not a good idea. She needs to have at least one very good season in BGN, i.e., a top 5 finish in points -- before moving to Cup.

I wish her all the best.

Her problem won't get better soon and everyone knows what it is. This is a male dominated sport and until she actually takes control, she will be able to do only what is allowed of her. If she can get someone like Roush, Yates, RCR, DEI or maybe Penske, she might be able to break through, but unless she is given the equipment that is superior, she'll never make it. It's the same for everyone, but she has one more barrier to break than the men. And, maybe she just isn't the right one to be the first to succeed.

I agree buck.........one more thing to add: The BAM team is treating the whole NASCAR thing more like a hobby than a competitive business that it is. About 75% of her problems from day one has been the team...........the other 25% just may be that she's not experienced enough or perhaps not good enough. I don't see her being the first to succeed either.

She wasn't ready for cup. But she is a good driver with a lot of talent. Hope she get a good ride in Busch . Then in time come dack to Cup.

I personally think Busch is going to still be too advanced for her.

I don't think we'll ever really know how good she is unless she succeeds in getting a good ride, and that's going to be her biggest hurdle. Even in other circuits where a woman has been successful, it doesn't mean the doors have been opened for all. Drag racing is the only other series that I know of where a woman has been champ and there have been two. But, only one of them was in the top series of that bunch. When you reach the top of anything, you've got to be not only good, but lucky AND in the right place.

It sounds like Shawna had the right idea since the beginning. She says she's still contracted under BAM, so maybe they will help build her or find her a BGN ride to drive. But w/o $, she will not be going anywhere.

Seems to me that Shawna already did the Busch thing a few years back. I can remember her and her husband racing at the same time or am i mistaken? Personally i think she is a good driver ,but this late in her career i doubt she will ever make it in WC. Take some one like Sara Fischer, that is another story....loads of talent and young....she would have a future in Nascar.

She ran in ARCA which is basicly old cup cars. If she could run good in ARCA she should do good in BGN. In ARCA she did run good and finished in the top 10 possibly top 5 in points a couple of years.

I think BGN is a good step as long as it is a good team.

Mopardh9,

You are thinking of Patty Moise, Elton Sawyer's wife (she keeps her maiden name).

Sarah Fisher does have talent!! But she will not go F1 racing. She has said many times that she grew up on ovals and wants to stay on ovals that is why she is in the IRL and Not CART, If she wanted to go to F1 as a goal then she would have gone into CART.
Sarah did have a test lined up for the #60 BGN car but I guess that was scraped

Thanks for correcting me, what ever happened to Patty anyway? Did family obligations come in the way of racing? Still think Fischer would do well in Busch or Trucks , then progress to WC. I can't see her going F-1 either, she grew up on the ovals and don't see her the type to go race in a boring series where there is hardly anything exciting going on.
