to the new qualify'n rules? No Qual setup, one transmission, all that jazz.

was it just for cost effectivness? or was there more to it?

does anyone know?

For the most part? COST. Larry Mac was mentioning that one team told him that they spent $100,000 on qualifying oil for the engine alone. Not to mention the special shocks and other lubricants. Another factor is less time for the drivers and crew at the track. I heard Kasey Kahne mention that he did not know what he was going to do the rest of the day because he has so much free time. Crews do not have to take the car apart and put the race setup under it. I like it.

I think there's another (perhaps unintended) benefit. The teams will have to find a compromise setup to start the race with and put a bunch of adjustment in the car for changes in order to get to the front. It's going to make for some interesting directions the cars will go at the beginning and how the others will deal with it........good cars will come back and bad cars will be lapped! I like the change, though it could be dangerous for my favorite. But, I ain't alone........that's going to be the case for all the drivers! :D

I always thought that to qualify what you expect to race with would be the way to go.

i concur bumpzter, it just makes sense, there's not point in spending tons of cash on two laps that will only cause you more work than its worth only to see your car drop like a lead balloon

But track position is so important.........to some teams it's worth it. :) There's plus and minus'. But I like the change.

Several of the drivers when asked about the change on MRN said they thought it would save money, but they really liked it.

Worked for the 9 Car today. :beerbang: :beerbang: :D

I think it puts some of the skill back in the drivers hands.

They will spend it some where else...... we all know when you have a little extra money, we find a place to spend it. :growl:

Mark is always a threat at a bush race. I do believe he is the winningest(sp?)
driver. He did a great job, neverthless. :beerbang:

Thanks for the answers all.

Yeah, I just don't like the fact that they don't have an extra chance after qualify'n to mess with the cars.

Maybe it's cuz my drivers are mired in teh back due to it...
but, I think it's more about the fact that look at the way some of the guys qualified, and how bad the tire rub was on their cars, and in practice...

let's see what happens.
