in using a surge protecter? It's been a week and today i got my puter back from shop.(power surge fried it) just glad to be back.

depends on the strength of it.

An electric Joule is defined as one watt second. Therefore, a 900 Joule protector (typical) will hold 900 watts for 1 second before being breached.

I've got a 900 Joule protector plus the power supply in my computer will trip off if input exceeds 125-130VAC (it's got a bunch of protection circuits built in).

Ideal would to have a UPS instead of a surge protector, but dont have the money.

Also, note that not all power strips have surge protection capability- very few actually do.

if you have even infrequent power surges/failures a ups will pay for itself. i've had an optiups 1000c for years and it;s well worth the money. expensive though, i'd check out ebay.

Just so you know a 4 dollar surege protectoe won't do jack. The one on my computer is 60 bucks and I was glad I had it last summer. I too have had stuff fry with the cheops.
