What's The Worst Job You Ever Had?

I'm not talking about cleaning a kittly litter box or the like. What job did you absolutely hate the most?

I worked briefly for a line clearing outfit. We went out whenever someone needed a power line, and we cut the brush, trees, etc. to make way for the poles and the line. One morning, in a 2 hour plus stretch of time, as I made my way through waist-high brush and crap with an axe in one hand and a scythe-type blade in the other, our three-man crew killed a total of 14 copperheads. At lunch, I firmly told the dude in charge that I would be happy to flag traffic the rest of the day, but when he got me back to my car, he'd never see me again. I went home that night and completed my college application.

I worked in a fabric mill.

Huge rolls of woll or cotton would come off the machines...about 10-15 yards wide and be cut into thirds. Two guys would then grab each cut roll and bag it and carry it on our backs to a holding area where it would be brought away for packaging. Maybe 40 to 50 pounds each.

Hard labor is fine, I did roofing for a year and absolutely loved it. But this place was nasty, the dust that would settle on the walls and corners of the factory would spontaneously burst into wispy pink flames at random times. If the place were to go up in a ball of fire I wouldn't know, because no one there was able to speak english anyway.

Oh, and it was from 6am to 6pm Monday through Saturday. Sunday off.

Moving houses. To crawl under a house with a flash light and shovel to dig a a place to slide beams under. Now that is a job everyone should try. Or walking the top of the house and picking up high power lines. Wonderful job. Needless to say I didn't last about a two months.

Working at a Pizza Hut for 21 years, dealing with the public is very hard. If I only had a dollar for the times I was cussed out I could retire

the one i have now----whataburger

stupid people i work with
if i had a dime for every time i have burnt myself those damn french fries!!!

Worked in a office as a sales rep for an auto parts and equipment wholesaler. It was much dirtier than you would expect from an office setting. Crooked ownership that tried to steal money from me every chance they had. Kept it under 60 degrees in the winter and sweat to death in the summer. Dressing business casual when it is so cold you have to sit on your hands sucks. I've had much worse jobs physically, but mentally the whole cubicle world just sucked the life right out of me.

Well I've only had one and I enjoy it.

Oh yeah, I guess I should tell you what I do. I put in garage doors and openers. Pay is only 10-15 buck an hour (depends on hour) which in pretty good for a first job and the hours are great.

It might not be too bad, but I hated working retail.

The males in the store who worked with me refused to do their work and at the end of the shift or day I would have to go help them pick up and organize their parts of the store. I also had to pick up after customers, clean up gross messes I don't want to think about, and deal with people who would yell, cuss, and call me names if the store didn't have something or I didn't know the answer right away.

I had to pick up underwear from packages people ripped apart, deal with disgusting things left in both the men and women dressing rooms. And try not to say stuff when people asked if I was stupid for not knowing if the sporting parts of the store carried something when I worked in the clothes section. And btw there are only so many shoes you can pick up again and again and reorganize before wanting to scream.

I would be on my feet for hours trying to placate people and keep my areas clean. I didn't get paid well or treated well by the higher ups. It wasn't too bad physically, but at the end of the day I felt so drained emotionally after dealing with everything. Cleaning up elephant poop and touching dead rats (I vounteered at the zoo) was worse and didn't pay at all, but I would have gladly done that over retail. And yet I am looking for a job in retail right now.

My first job as a check out chick at a Supermarket is the worst I have had, mainly because they tend to stuff casual people around and the area I work in the people...well...they seem to have alot to get mad about...

Then I worked in Administration and as an Assistant in both the public service and a small private business, which I liked and learnt alot but realised it's not the thing I want to do for the rest of my career that's for sure.

So yeah...I have recently went back to the start, I'm at College doing Marketing, while (yes silly me) doing casual work once again as a check out chick at a different Supermarket.

Although I must say after working for two years and being older you learn how to deal better with customers.

The biggest cult in America: Walmart. Under paid, over worked, tried to get you to work ot without pay ect. I'd be working 55 hours for the week, and they'd want to pay me for 40. Anyone ever seen those ridiculous Walmart cheers? They ship mid level managers off to 3 days seminars on why unions are evil. Of course only because their scared crapless about them. If you disagree with them over unions, your job is threatened. The mid level managers or dept. managers aren't even eligible if a union were to start, they are management afterall. But we were encouraged to lie to our employees if it meant persauding them to have an anti union stance. They have their own employees do much of the construction. I tell you that in itself is scary and makes ya wonder how safe these stores really are. Except for eletrical work. All the single young kids are shipped off to different stores to work on these remodels. A friend of mine was terminated because he didn't want to be in another state for 6 weeks away from his girlfriend and family. The first thing you do when your hired is watch a video of Sam Walton. Then after the video they ask you what you will do for Sam! The amazing thing is you don't realize it so much, until you get a different job making twice as much without the total bs. Then I wonder how stupid I was working their for 6 years. It takes alittle while to be deprogramed!

Then add in all the other bs people have already mentioned about working retail.

A very funny site:
