• Edwards, Bowyer furious with Stewart after bump

"I'm taking 100 percent responsibility for the final incident that occurred on lap 32 between myself, the 07 [Bowyer] and the 99 [Edwards]. It was totally my fault.

"At the same time, there were circumstances that led up to that wreck, and after talking with Clint [on Monday] morning, we both have a better understanding as to what happened. He was trying to get out of my way and didn't realize that I had gone to the outside. He thought I was to his inside, and when he tried to give me some room, he slid into us and it put us into the outside wall. I reacted, causing the wreck that I take responsibility for and regret."

On Lap 32, Stewart was racing on the outside of Bowyer through Turn 3 of Pocono's 2.5-mile triangle when Bowyer's car pushed out toward the wall. Stewart gave as much ground as he could until scraping the wall with the right side of his No. 20 Chevrolet. As he came off the wall, Stewart made contact with Bowyer, sending Bowyer's No. 07 Chevrolet into Edwards' No. 99 Ford.

NASCAR penalized Stewart one lap for aggressive driving, putting the two-time and reigning Nextel Cup champion 41st in the 43-car field.

Stewart regained his lead lap status on Lap 41 by passing then leader Ryan Newman. Stewart went on to finish seventh in the 200-lap race.

Home Depot got Gibbs by the rocks. This has happened before with Stewart. Just a bunch of PR nonsense to make Tony look like Mr.Clean when he's not. I'm sure some will be taken by it, though.

Obviously, most see through the phoney apology by Tony Stewart but he still thinks he did nothing wrong. One line tells in his "apology" says it all.

"At the same time, there were circumstances that led up to that wreck".

When people apologize, there are no caveats. Either you accept responsibility or you don't. If this is an apology, it would have been best left unsaid.

Hate to say it , but I've been a big fan of Joe Gibbs for years as a coach. He always seemed to have control of his team and kept them in pretty high standards. It just seems he has no control over an idiot like Tony Stewart and seems to be doing very little to try to change him. Guess winning is everything to him no matter what the cost. Just seems I keep losing more interest in NASCAR because they have really lowered their standards as far as the reputation of the drivers. Seems like more and more they are acting like spoiled little brats.

Tony..... Whiz, you hit this one right on the head, as I know that you are qualified to do (but this one was easy). Tony is a pure racer for sure. He devotes all his time to what he wants, winning. Jeez, just look at the guy. He doesn't care about his appearance, it's all about winning and that's all that counts. When someone gets in the way, they have to face the consequences. Now when someone from above comes down hard on the man, he seems to be able to back up and admit his mistakes, but does anyone really believe this? I think not. Tony is a real, and I mean REAL gladiator of these days. He would be hailed as the total top dog without rival back in those days, but we aren't living in those days. As such, he's a real throwback to the days of yesteryear in NASCAR. He is actually quite tame compared to many in the old days of the sport, but once again, we aren't in those days. What counts today is winning and having a good impression for the big money sponsors. Actually, things would be very much different if the rest of the drivers were much like Tony. Even the old Ironhead himself, Earnhardt Sr., would have things to say about Tony, if he were still alive today.

Tony has his fans and they love this guy for being totally himself. Oh if only the rest of the racing community were still living in the past as Tony is doing. I find myself thinking that if only.... You wouldn't believe the number of t-sirts I have with Tony and sponsor have on them.

Wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Those shirts came from my wife! I'm a closet fan of Tony's as well as..................

Well buck at least you came out of the closet. Now if someone else would just do the same...

Wait a second. What did I say here? All I said was that I am a fan of Tony's, but what the heck, I'm a fan of Jeffy's, Jr. Carl, and especially Kasey, but that's only the beginning. I'm soooo different than I was in that old days. These days I'm so politically correct that I won't even say who I don't like, but I'm not sure who that might be. It depends on the weekend and who did what to whom. :)

Y'know, I'm an old Bill Elliott fan that isn't sure that I'd root for him in a race these days. Now how's that for consistency? We have a totally different NASCAR today and my choices of favs can change weekly with few exceptions. And I believe that for many of us older fans, that's the way it is. This week, we could be cheering for all holy cripes for Jeffy, but next week, we're all agog for Jr. And you know what, I think that's great.

One thing for sure, it's takes guts to be a fan of Robby Gordon and I'm one of those fans...at least for the time being. :)

A 100 bucks says this apology is so Clint and Carl don't ruin his chances for the chase with a little 'payback'

I agree with this statement so very much, money has changed everything. The greed has changed humble men/boys into power hungry idiots. I'm starting to get on the bandwagon of not watching Cup every race, just because now it seems you have a WWE incident every week. There is no repect anymore at the highest level of Nascar racing. I don't mind a little rubbing now and then, but blatant wrecking of your fellow drivers is downright dirty. Time Nascar stepped up to the plate and parked the offenders, took away there points , and sent a message. Saddly i know deep down this won't happen, also i know it will be a very hard for me not to watch the races. I just wish that these guys would respect the fact that driving at 190mph , taking out another driver, then acting like it was the other guys' fault sends the wrong kind of message to todays' youth and adults. These guys are in the National spotlight, they should start acting like they belong there, not like they belong in the A main at the local dirt track. ;)
