Knauss is crying cuz there were no emergency personnel chasing Jimmie's car back to the pits. When I saw Jimmie in the pits, I saw EMT's. What's Knauss talking about? Jimmie said he was o.k. He even made it to the pits on his own.

i want to see what he said...because Jimmie hit the wall and just came to pit road...there was no time for anyone to get to him quicker than his team did when he went into the pits......when he went into the pits there were EMTs all over the place.

I find Chad to be a little odd, no offense but he comes off so wierd.

I believe he was under the impression that it was a MANDATORY trip to the infield care center, especially when a driver takes a hit like that and is obviously disoriented. All the EMTs did was ask if he was okay, and when he said yes, they left. Not a good idea for the EMTs to just take a driver's word for it.

I believe the code is that the driver doesnt have to go to the hospital if they drive back to the pit box or garage but if they dont get it going its a mandatory trip.

That's the way I understand the rule........you can't get the car going and get back on your own you get a free ride to the infield care center. Jimmie made it back and said he was okay.......the EMT's are free to go do other things. But, I do also remember a rule that was put in place after Jr hit the wall hard at California and had a mild concussion that any driver who is knocked unconscious (even for a very small time) has to have a doctor's release to drive again. I'm pretty sure I heard Jimmie say he was "knocked out" and doesn't remember anything until he got out of the car in his pit box. I think he may have just told the EMT's he was okay to avoid that mandatory note from the doc........but with his admission on live TV that he was knocked out for a while he needs to get that doctor's release before next week.

Like what? Smoke cigarettes and eat Cheerios? EMT's are Emergency Medical Technicians. These are the people who should make the decisions, not the drivers. I don't give a crap if a driver makes it back to the pits or not, if they have to be helped out of the car and look as dazed as Johnson did, they damn well better take his dazed ass to the care center.

Take it up with the EMT's. The rules say that if a driver makes it back to his pit stall or the garage area, the EMT's are free to leave unless requested for some assistance. In fact, most of the time the EMT's don't even come over to the driver. I can see why they were there this time because Johnson's car was on fire but that's probably the only reason they came over at all. And if you will remember there was a race going on.........I doubt they would have gone for a smoke or a bowl of Cheerios. Johnson looked no more haggard when he got out of the car than Stewart did after winning the damned thing. Johnson evidently told them he was fine........and you think they should doubt him and wrestled him to the ground and forced medical care on him? It's not the EMT's call when someone who is coherent and responsive says they are fine..........being haggard looking could very well be caused by something other and being in medical distress (I bring up Tony Stewart again). You saw what I saw....Johnson nodding his head in an affirmative way and it appears he said "I'm fine". The EMT patted him on the shoulder and said something and it looked to me like Jimmie said "thanks" in response. I don't think the EMT's had a reason to doubt him. He appeared to be okay to me after he got out and had a drink of water........and apparently the EMT's thought so too.

Find a better phrase to pounce on next time.

DE I think you have a shadow following you around nitpicking all your posts.....BEWARE...... :D :D

first and foremost, this wasn't me nitpicking something DEW said, I'm griping about the EMT's and Nascar. Not DEW. Alls I'm saying is that they should have stayed around to see if he was really okay. Those guys have too much pride to admit to being hurt. Did you hear the fans cheering for his flaming car? The guy didn't want to lose face in front of all of them. This, I admit is a stupid justification for denying attention, but this is the same country that requires people to wear helmets and seatbelts.

Try not quoting one part of one sentence out of a post and then launching some tirade about off smoking a cigarette or eating cereal and then dictating how a medical response team should act or do their job.........then I might believe what you have to say.

Just so we are all clear, here is an article from nascar.com http://www.nascar.com/2005/news/headlines/cup/08/07/jjohnson.indianapolis/index.html regarding Knaus being upset.

Johnson under care, but Knaus livid with EMTs

INDIANAPOLIS -- Jimmie Johnson suffered what he called the hardest hit of his career Sunday in the Allstate 400 after the right-front tire blew on the Lowe's Chevrolet, sending him hurtling into the outside retaining wall 15 laps from the finish at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Johnson, woozy while sitting on the pit wall after the accident, was transported via helicopter to Methodist Hospital for further precautionary evaluation. He was treated, then released.

"Man, that was hard," Johnson said. "That's by far, I think, the hardest hit I've taken. Just blew a right-front tire and away I went, head first.

"So thank God for the soft walls and HANS device and everything. I'll be OK. I'll be scratching my head for the next day or two, though."

Crew chief Chad Knaus said he didn't think Johnson had suffered "any serious injuries," but that he was "definitely dizzy, he definitely blacked-out."

Johnson said he was unable to remember steering the car to the pits following the accident.

"I don't really remember coming from Turn 4 to the pits," he said. "I just remember kind of waking up on pit road the guys pulling me out of the car. So it's all good.".

When Johnson pulled to a stop in his pit stall, the No. 48 Chevrolet was on fire underneath the hood. Smoke filled the ****pit as the crew rushed to extract Johnson from the car.

Knaus was incensed with the timeliness of NASCAR's response to the accident.

"You come to these events and make a mistake as a team and get penalized for it, and there's a driver that's sitting on pit wall out there in need of an ambulance and NASCAR doesn't even send an ambulance down there, what happens to them?" Knaus said.

"I think it's ridiculous. We walked all the way from 39th pit stall into the garage area before we had any medical attention whatsoever."

NASCAR said two emergency personnel were on site, spoke with Johnson and that he declined treatment.

"Here's what we know, there were two EMT personnel on site and they spoke with Jimmie and Jimmie declined treatment, said he was fine," said NASCAR spokesman Ramsey Poston.

"The EMTs called up to the tower and said he was declining to be seen, so then no other further medical assistance was sent. However, after he was sitting there a while an official did walk him to the infield medical center for further treatment, once they realized he needed to be seen."

Running 11th at the time of the accident, Johnson finished 38th and forfeited the series points lead to race winner Tony Stewart. He trails Stewart by 75 points.

^ yeah jj said he didn't know how he got to the pits, now you think EMT personnel would know better :(

That says it all.........Johnson declined treatment. The EMT's reported it to NASCAR officials that he declined treatment. Chad's beef is baseless........the medical people where there and offered. That's what I saw on TV and no one seemed too upset at the time........even during the interview. Now if Jimmie had second thoughts (as it appears he did) and decided to go the the care center that's another story........can't blame the EMT's for that though.

I don't know.........something about that whole team and their constant whining and griping. Sure makes it hard for me to be a fan of theirs. Prima Donna's, as another member here calls them........sure is beginning sound true to me.

However, after he was sitting there a while an official did walk him to the infield medical center for further treatment, once they realized he needed to be seen."

Like I said, that should be their call whether or not he really is fine. I'm not an EMT, but everyone I was watching with was a little freaked by his wooziness...I was wondering myself why he was just sitting there and no one took him to the care center yet.

When Jimmy made the comment on TV about not sure how he made it to the pits, waking up to the team pulling him out of the car, I thought exactly what DE is stating. Back to JR. and the concussion. I don't think the EMTs did anything wrong, they were there, asked Jimmy if he was okay, he declined treatment, when they (EMTs) realized he did indeed need treatment he went to the infield care center. Don't see what Knauss is upset about.

Ya know, about this mandatory ride to the care center. Isn't it over used sometimes. I mean a guy gets wrecked, jumps out of his car, chases the culprit around the track on foot 2 or 3 times to exact his revenge but because his car is undriveable he has to take a ride to the care center. Something just doesn't seem right in those cases.

THIS IS NOT A BASH!
chad really is a whinner IMHO, seems everytime i see him on TV he is complaining about something.
enough said.

Not as bad as dale jr the last few weeks! I love the respect he shows for his team while whinning!

true,
how come everyone thinks if you were a DE fan you just HAVE to be a jr fan

You have to admit, a good number of them adopted him due to his name - obviously not all, but a lot.

You know, since Dale died Lil'E is really not Dale Earnhardt Jr. He is just Dale Earnhardt. The Jr. moniker drops off once the Sr. passes on. Now folks who call him Junior are using it like a nickname, similar to Junebug.
Just thought I'd make that distinction... :)
