What's wrong with the #24?

ROBBIE LOOMIS, CREW CHIEF, NO. 24 DUPONT CHEVROLET MONTE CARLO - Jeff Gordon finished 19th

"We've been off our game this whole season. It's just unfortunate. We had a real good car again, but I made some bad calls on the adjustments and that took us out of the ballpark. But the pit crew did a great job all day long and kept him (Gordon) right in there. But there again, we got behind and you can't make anything up when you get back out."

THAT's what's wrong with the #24. Robbie Loomis has been making bad calls all year long and all he can say is that he made bad adjustments but the team performed well. What a load of crap. The #24 car isn't running near as well as his teammate is and you know the driver knows what to do. So that leaves it at either the car, the pit stops or the crew chief. The cars are fine, look at what Jimmy Johnson has done this year; the pit stops are fine, Jeff never seems to lose spots coming out of the pits too often; so that leaves the crew chief with all of his bad calls. In my opinion they need to kick Loomis to the curb and find somebody that knows how to adjust a racecar. This same crap week in and week out is getting very old to a longtime Gordon fan.

Maybe Jeff has been having a hard time communicating what is going on with the car, and Loomis hasn't been making the right adjustments because of that.

Hey, Gordy seems to be agreeing with whatever decisions Robbie makes when it comes to those adjustments. Jeff has plenty of sway and input when it comes to making changes. It is very strange to see Jeff be out in left feild week after week though.

Jeff is running pretty good considering he is up agnaist a newer breed of competition.Jeff came into Nascar with some great new technology backing him up,This same tech.has been spread among the field now.Jeff has expanded his horizon into other areas of the game also.Jeff Gordon fans should not be worried the least bit,He is still a threat any given Sunday.;)

It's just been unheard of to have Gordon running mid-pack most of the season. He can't get a win if he's running 20th most of the race. And it's not getting better. Gordon finished 22nd at Watkins Glen and now 19th at Michigan, and this is on speed. So what is going on????

Maybe he should get some counseling from Todd Bodine as to what its like to run like this all the time. That should scare the BeJesus out of him. :D

Last time I checked he's 150 points out of the points lead. This is getting blown way out of proportion.

I think Jeff Gordan is struggling with the stress of his messy divorce and that can be really hard when he is already stressed about racing. I don't see him winning at all this year but staying close in the points chase.

I've said for a long time that he'll win this season, and when he does he'll rip off a few on a row. Now I ain't so sure. He may get one or two yet, but it amazes me that he hasn't won. If someone told me in January that Ward would have 2 more wins than JeffyPoo going to the Bristol fall race, I'd be asking which 7 races Ward won.

Awww...come on guys. He might be fifth in points but that's only because he hasn't fallen out of a race all year. He hasn't run like he's fifth in points, that for damn sure. That team is average at best right now. He's been running mid pack during the last two months and can't seem to go foward. Everytime that they try to get track position and get to the front on pit stops he falls right back to where he was, about mid pack.

And as far as thinking that Jeff isn't communicating well I believe that you need to think again. Robby has taken the blame for just about every bad race this year except for the ones where Jeff screwed up which he accepted the blame on those. Jeff Gordon is one of the best if not THE best at telling a crew chief what his car is doing. That is afterall how him and Ray won all of those races together. Superior communication. So he's not lacking in that department. There is something wrong with the way that team is working together. And I'm not liking it one bit. I guess you could say I'm disappointed in them more than anything else. You would think that he would have more chances to win races but there has only been about a couple of races where he had a legit shot at winning. And everything else has been mid pack. Un-four time champion like if ya ask me. And I don't think it's a problem with the driver. Not at all.

Actually, I don't think the whole problem is the #24 team. For several years that team has been the benchmark by which other teams were measured. It may be that the other teams have now caught up, and even surpassed the 24.

Jeff has not forgotten how to drive, and Robbie Loomis has not forgotten how to be a crew chief.

It's the paint job!

Those flames have to go!

Then Jeff would have more for me to buy!

:leap:

This is gonna surprise all of you.Just maybe Jeff is human,Imagine that.:satisfied Everyone use to say,Nobody likes a guy who wins all the time,Maybe Jeff can pu some new fans now.:D

I still think it's just an off year...look at ALL past champions.

I still love Jeff, but look at all the races others haven't won.

PURRRRRRRRRRRRRr Jeff

I'm with Pb on that . Maybe Jeff is only human. Look at the past, its all about advantage. Jr. Johnson had it, the Woods Bros. had it, Richard Childress had it, and Rick Hendrick had it, they found something that works that nobody else knows, it spreads through the garage area and that advantage is gone. Take DEI on plate tracks, they have an advantage that nobody else has right now, but everybody will pick up on it and the advantage will disappear. Its racing, thats why they pay big dollars to engine men, shock specialist, engineers. just MHO.

He can't win every race and every championship. Plus, hard times bring good times (not that he is having a horrible racing season).

it's like everything else in life............you have your ups and downs........he'll be back..........a 4 time champion doesn't just sit down and fade away.............remember BILL ELLIOTT...........he was horrible for soooooooooooo many years now look........... don't worry so much GORDY fans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thats right 66,Thats the big guy upstairs checkvalve.:)

As much as we all joke about Gordon running mid-pack, he has really only done that the past two races. I assume he had a poor handling car at Michigan. But prior to Watkins Glen, almost every time he was not in the top 5 or 10, it was because of specific mechanical trouble. Sure, I believe his divorce is stressful and distracting. But the cream always rises to the top. He'll be back up there soon. BTW, I think Chevys are struggling some this year, too. That may be another factor. JMO

IMO,a few things have combined to cause Jeff's slump. And yes,'slump'is what it is,5th in points or not.His best tracks are arguably Indy and the Road courses...and we saw how he faired there.

1.The Loomis factor:AKA Ray is gone.Robbie is fair to good, but Evernham was a genius.Simply put at least 50%-60% of Gordon's success must be attributed to Ray.

2.Increased competition:The new breed of young driver is simply not 'pyched-out'by Jeff.Don't underestimate this for a second. The last few years have seen about 6-7 drivers come along that are farther along in their careers than Jeff was at the same point.Stewart,Jr.,Harvick,Johnson.etc.

3.The divorce:probably just enough of a distraction to keep Jeff preoccupied.

4.Johnson: Another distraction for Jeff...just enough of one to contribute to Jeff's worries.

5.Do the math:add these things together and you have Jeff Gordon, middle of the pack driver.JMO.;)

97 Fan, I have to agree w/ you. It's got to be all those things combined. Jeff's a great racer, but human too, and bound to have slumps for one reason or another....

BC, this one's been bothering me all day.. How can it not be Jeff G's fault at all when he has the same crew and chief from last year? (a championship year) It happens to the best of them, and it happened to Gordon in 2000, but not every year is his year......

I just think the blame should be spread...

HH, didn't you know? Jeff's perfect. Guess you didn't get the memo.

Our D I V O R C E, becomes final today.
Me and little C A S H will be going away.

Sorry, just felt like singing an old Tammy Wynette tune.....
LMAO ...soryy guys...couldn't help it.

Here is Tony's new theme song: Mama Said Knock You Out!
hehehehhe...

And Kurt and Jimmy will be singing "You spin me right round baby right round like a record..." or am I the only one who remembers that AWFUL 80s song????

Like a record baby right round, round round.....

How's that for useless 80's music trivia!! :)

Whats wrong with the old 80's songs? Thats what I had to grow up on :)

I say knock em all out Smoke :)

And Nascar says....Wait they say nothing! lol...They were speechless over all the $$$ they raked in with those ratings.

Doesn't anybody wonder why Gordon suddenly went into his slump right about the same time all the accusations about teams using TC was all over the news? NASCAR made it very clear they were going to start monitoring everybody really close and any team caught with a TC device would be severely penalized. Hey, I'm not saying he was using it but it sure makes me wonder.....

WOMENS INTUITION TELLS ME THAT THERE MAY BE SOMETHING OR SOMEONE WORKING AGAINST THE 24. THEY NEEED TO CHECK ALL THE PIT CREW, CREW CHIEF AND ANYBODY ELSE THAT WOULD HAVE ACCESS TO THE 24 CARS. I ALSO NOTICED THAT THEIR PIT TIME IS NOT NEAR AS GOOD AS IT WAS LAST YEAR. WITH JEFF BEING AS CONSISTANT AS HE IS HOW CAN THIS CREW INCLUDING THE DRIVER BE SO FAR OFF IN JUST ONE YEAR. I DON'T KNOW ABOUT THE 24 CREW BUT THIS SETS OFF LITTLE WARNING BELLS FOR ME.:(

i think the aliens got to him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! j/k.:D as much of a non gordon fan that i am,it must be tough for him to hear all of the talk about him.............he is handling it professionally and that is commendable.

The #24 team is in a slump of sorts....some guys would LOVE the slump Gordon is in, however, for the driver and the team....this season must be discouraging to say the least. I'd love to see him win a couple....guess I'm just spoiled...winning so many each season for the past 5 years. But you can't win them all, this is a character building year for the entire #24 team.

Like the saying goes " you cant' keep a good man down" Jeff will be back. Every person in profession sports has slumps and some bad luck along the way. But the best keep on fighting to get back to the top. Jeff's been there and he know what it takes so don't count him out yet. :booya: :booya: :booya:
