I thought it would be interesting to pose this question to all posters....

Which track is your favorite to visit for a NASCAR race and why?

My personal favorite is Martinsville. I must give the disclaimer that I am a rookie at attending racing, I have watched them for almost my whole life, but just started getting to go to race last year. I have been to Martinsville and Bristol, and even though Bristol is great and more modern, I LOVE Martinsville. It has that great down home feel, and everyone is pretty friendly. The races I have saw at Martinsville live were also way more exciting than the one I saw in Bristol last August.

So I pose the question to you guys....where is your favorite and why?

Potomac Speedway and Langley Speedway! :beerbang::beerbang::beerbang:

Oh, you mean NASCAR?

I'd have to say Dover only because I've never been to Bristol and the Richmond Fairgrounds traffic will get a rise out of me every time.

I know it's not NASCAR, but I really liked The Rock as well. Might go back there in October for the ARCA/USAR doubleheader!:beerbang:

TMS is the only track i've been to. Traffic is a dream- but it starts to back up starting around 11am for a 2 pm start. Since i go in the garage, i get there around 8 am and just cruise through the facility. For the cup race, it took me 20 minutes from when i got to my truck to when i was doin 55 down hwy 377....from the infield

20 minutes?

I sit in traffic for at least 20-30 minutes just to leave the dragstrip... That's approximately 2 mph.

I only sit in traffic at Dover for an hour before getting to drop the hammer. Richmond, I'll sit at the parking lot for at least two hours and that's after staying trackside for over an hour after the drop of the checkered flag.

Concord Motorsports Park, or whatever its called now.
It's like a small Pocono. Very cool and great racing.
Saw my hero Carl Long finish 2nd in Pro Cup race there a couple of years ago.

It's now back to Concord Speedway. I like it too but it seems that the promoters there are keeping the stands empty.

I like Martinsville the best. It's the closest to us and the action is great. You won't see any follow the leader there.

I've only been to Chicagoland Speedway, so I can't really say which is my favorite. That's like asking a person who's only eaten haggis what his favorite food is.

Chicagoland isn't bad overall. It just doesn't have anything that stands out. It's the youngest track on the Cup schedule, so the facilities are all modern. The traffic control was terrible post-race since it opened. But this year they did a much better job. It went from over an hour to get out of the parking lot last year to about 15 minutes this year.

For major tracks Michigan, Indy, and Road America are about 5 hours away from Chicago. It's my dream to get an RV and go to all the major races. Daytona, Bristol, Martinsville, Indy, and Watkins Glen are all high on my "must visit" list.

I love Bristol because it's the closest. Less than an hour. Martinsville has always been fun and there's nothing like being in Daytona during Speed weeks in February. Man I think I like alot of them. LOL

Sorry but I got four favorites.

Martinsville is my favorite track to go to. Old time feel to the place and the racing is great. We camp close to the track with some good friends that we've met there.

Richmond was my second favorite because of the racing only. I had to give it up after being forced to purchase the IRL as part of the package for our season tickets. I could even give those tickets away and ate the $200 in tickets over the past two years.

Dover is third for me as we've been going there the longest and I know that place rather well. I get in that track just before the race, stay for the entire thing, and get out quick afterward.

Bristol is fourth for me. To me, it's more of an event than a race. I know most will disagree, as I may be the only one that thinks the racing is better there now since they repaved/reconfigured the track. More side by side.

Out of the cup tracks i've been to I probably like Martinsville the best. Probably 2nd for me would be Daytona.

My rank of the ones I've been too...

1 - Dover - sitting in turn 4 is fantastic and the racing is fun
2 - Bristol - I really just love everything about this place
3 - Milwaukee Mile - great track to see a race but management sucks
4 - Michigan - it's ok, nice facilities and traffic wasn't bad
5 - Chicagoland - nice facility and getting out of the parking lot was a breeze
6 - Pocano - it's ok, I only go to it because its not far from my area
7 - Indy 500 - you cant see the whole track, yes it's indy and it's a must go to for at least one race but after that there is really no need to ever go again. I'd rather watch the race on tv anyday

Here is my list.

1. Bristol
2. Martinsville
3. Dega
4. Darlington
5. Michigan

I haven't been to a track where I did not enjoy the race. Well, there was the Brickyard last year... :D

Dover for me but it's the only track I've been too. Pocono is just as far but I've been spoiled with being able to see just about everything at Dover I've been hesitant to go. The one downside can't buy pit passes so can't get up close and personal like some other tracks.

The Cathedral of speed... Daytona. The best thing going for anything under a mile is Iowa Speedway. Three wide racing that you will not find at Bristol or Martinsville.

You won't find cup drivers there either:D

Oh, I did not realize this was for Cup drivers.... Well lets see, Nationwide is at Iowa in two weeks and I would bet a few cup drivers will be there. A few Cup drivers have already run there and won. There are plenty of great NASCAR tracks that Cup drivers do not run at.

Martinsville does have so much history behind it but traveling down a windy two lane road too watch a race on a track that could be set up in any nearby shopping mall does not appeal too me.

Been to quite a few tracks in the time period between 1958 and 1990 plus several smaller venues that went by the wayside once NASCAR reduced the schedule. Did get to several of the older venues (pre-1972) in the northeast (Trenton, Old Bridge, Reading, PA and one long trip to Texas World Speedway) and of them all, my personal favorite all time is North Wilkesboro.

Current day favs:

1. Martinsville
2. Richmond
3. any track one mile or less
4. Watkins Glen
5. Sonoma

Nationwide Series is racing there in a few weeks. I'm sure there will be several Cup drivers in that event since half of them run every race to start with.

My favorite NASCAR tracks (current and former):

  1. Rockingham Speeday
  2. Langley Speedway
  3. Dover Downs
  4. Richmond Fairgrounds
  5. Homestead-Miami Speedway

great thread!
it's a pretty hard question....... I've been lucky enough to go to a few cup races around here, and each has their own attraction....... I would have to say though my fav would be Darlington. For me, it's the history, for one...... the fact its still pretty bare bones, and really old school. It's not hard to look around and imagine the greats like Weatherly, Fireball, Panch, Petty, and Pearson and all the rest, back in the day. Close second would be Charlotte though.... it was my first race back in the 70's, and I've been going for , geeze, like 30 years now ( I'm gettin old...lol) It's just wierd to sit there now and think about when I first started comin, and what all has been built since then........

I really enjoyed North Wilkesboro because is was my home track. Only 20 minutes away, we could get up and pack a lunch consisting of Dads famous fried chicken, white bread, chips and Sundrop and or Cheerewine. Then we would go to Sunday school at church, and then head to the track. I really liked the N.C. tracks, "the Rock" and C.M.S. I seen a lot of racing at those venues, and Charlotte seemed to be one of my favorites.

Martinsville has a soft spot in my heart also. I had the pleasure of visiting there a couple of time. I like the old track, lots of history there. I loved the concessions too, famous hot dogs and 5th Avenue candy bars, what a combo!
