OK, I know nothing is official, but it seems obvious Carl has been looking to move. It's the only reason I can think of for his dragging this out so long.

The question I have is what will Jack do? He has some high profile sponsors locked up with Carl. Would they be happy with Mr Snore, Matt Kenseth, who loses Crown Royal at the end of the year.

IMO, Jack will move all efforts to Matt winning a championship in the hope of retaining AFLAC and Scotts. If that doesn't work, will he try to sign Trevor Bayne and sell the idea to Carls sponsors? Right now, Stenhouse is a far better driver, but Bayne is already a far more popular driver.

Jack needs to do something dramatic, because the Roush organization is being gutted right before his eyes.

Rousch was doing fine pre-Edwards and I suspect he'll do equally as well post-Edwards.

Do you think Edwards will really jeopardize his chance at a cup by letting Rousch know that he's jumping ship at the end of the year?

I think that if Edwards hasn't resigned by the time the chase starts, he's going to end up with the company hand-me-downs.

I'm betting Matt will be a contender again if Carl leaves. Anyone else get the feeling Matt will go elsewhere too when his contract is up. Maybe Jack should dump Regan, let Carl go and hire Bayne and Stenhous.

As far as the contract goes, they should hold off until the end of the season or until Carl is out of contention, no need to add distraction while your trying to win the championship.

If he signs elsewhere before the season is over his chances are gone, which would be stupid for Jack and Carl.

Ooh, those possibilities intrigue me. This could be a real soap opera.

Other than Carl, Roush's drivers are, as Tom Cahill would say, as exciting as a pocket of wet spaghetti. I'd just want to see who gets the lion's share of the spotlight at Gibbs if Edwards jumps ship.

That would be way too many ego's over there if Carl signs with Gibbs, there is already too many there as is. And you know if any of them starts to trail off equipment wise if Carl signs, the complaining would be unbearable in the interviews.

Lots of great comments. My question all year has been, why is Carl being so evasive? Matt and Gregg resigned (rumors say for less) because nobody else could accomodate them. At first, I thought he wanted to keep pressure on Jack to give him what he needs to win a championship, but why hasn't Carl even said "I really want to stay at Roush, but won't sign until the end of the season"? Carl knows that his chance of a championship this year ends the day he says he is leaving. He wrecked himself out of a championship in 2008, and now time is running out. He has a tough choice to make. I'm not even sure Gibb's is involved. Toyota, who has no love for Jack, may be offering Carl a huge deal with part ownership of his own team. Losing Redbull doesn't leave them with much, and carl could be a good answer.

What about Home Depot putting some pressure on Carl to come over? I mean, Joey doesn't strike me as a Home Depot kind of a guy. The first year commercials were cute, yes, but I just can't see Joey swinging a hammer.

Maybe a plastic one that says Bob the Builder on it.:D

lol Maybe they could have his Dad working alongside with a real hammer for that Father and Son feel good moment.

TLR, I can't imagine Tony swinging a hammer either. A fork with a large meatball is more the image I get.

The Home Depot scenario seems most likely. I'm sure Carl would love having just one sponsor for the year, something that is becoming pretty rare these days. If Carl see's Gibb's as the better route to a championship, I think he would bolt. Last year, it would have been an easier choice, but now it seems Roush and Ford have the upper hand. Would Home Depot consider moving to Roush? What if they have a performance clause with Joey?

If Carl does move, all hell is going to break loose in the garage and this silly season will be one to remember.

Home Depot isn't going to keep paying the freight while JJ and Lowes drive off into the sunset. They want a winner, someone who can beat JJ and run for the cup. Toast will be lucky if Gibbs keeps him in a NNW ride, otherwise it's back to Waterford in a legends car.:beerbang:

Home Depot ( and Lowes ) have reported losses for the past 3 years, they have had store closures and lay offs. Last I checked their stock was still down substantialy from their highs in 2006-2007. Forecast are still very weak in home building and home improvement areas with a lack of growth seen in the near future.

Can Home Depot afford a better driver?

( My Lowes stock hit an all time LOW of $22.81 not long ago :( )

i'm afraid you are probably right. and whoever said something about the ego's if edwards ends up with gibbs nailed it.

what i don't like is that it's the middle of the season and instead of talking about racing, we're talking about who's going where.

and that's with INDIANAPOLIS MOTOR SPEEDWAY next on the schedule. just goes to show that the racing is so boring there that instead of moving "busch" to indy, they should have moved "winston" to "Indianapolis Raceway Park". (i'd blast the name change, but forest lucas has pumped a ton of $$$ into dirt racing!)

almost sorry about the rant. but posts this week about nascar wanting to compete with the nfl has me wanting to blow up. wake up! not even in the same league! and i'm a race fan!

whew! glad to get that off my chest. hope kyle, harvick, montoya,... hell, i don't care... just someone do something on track so we can talk about racing!

maybe a mark martin win since i picked him in The Game.:D

I would be willing to bet that Carl will indeed be with Gibbs next year. The rumors started about six weeks ago and recently the rumors that they were talking were confirmed. I would be willing to also bet the sponsors are in place right now.

I think Carl messed up with the way he approached this. Silly season is off and running and it is going to get interesting.

Don't see him leaving but if he does I fell sorry for Gibbs with those three

I seriously doubt toast is going to be getting a offer from another cup team. hamlin, I don't know about him. He runs hot then cold. The punk runs hard, wins races and then impodes in the chase. I don't see him going anywhere soon.

I think the dynamic between Carl, if he goes to Gibbs, hambone and the punk will be interesting, at the very least extremely entertaining. :)

Hey don't be so hard on poor Joey. He's not doing that bad. After all, he does have 10 wins in a little over two full seasons. That's in Kyle Busch wins. :D Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Why would Carl wanna leave? He's the top dog right now so why go somewhere he has to share the spotlight with two other guys?

Sorry if someone already said that, I didn't go through the thread.

Because ....
1) If it is Home Depot, Carl will get 2 boat load's of cash.
2) Carl probably feels JGR will have better equiptment over the long haul.
3) Carl's ego tells him he will still be the top dog.

From what I've read Roush is kind of tight with the bucks he pays his drivers compared to other owners. Also with the split on souvenier sales.

When Bobby LaBonte left for Petty money was a big issue, I read that somewhere too.

It's hard to imagine anyone wanting to pay less than Richard.

I'd love to see Logano get thrown out of the Home Depot car and have Edwards get it instead. I gave Logano a chance but I just can't root for the kid. He bothers me too much.

I think I know how you feel. Everything from the over done eye brows to that snarl he calls a smile, I just want to smack him. I know this is my problem and not his, but that's the way it is.

lol...true. <g> also bobby left jgr, not roush. my take on bobby's leaving was that he liked the family atmosphere at petty and wanted to help them get back to being competitive. that was more important to him than money at the time i'm sure he would have earned more at gibbs.

carl will be well compensated whether he stays with roush, goes to gibbs or even somewhere else. i think other factors will determine where he goes i.e. best chance to win a championship and how well the organization functions as a whole.

You know, Joey and Brad look like brothers:D

..with different mothers. They are both fairly goofy, but Brad doesn't giggle like a little girl. Joey does. NAS.com had a live chat with Joey, and I asked "Is it time to lose the "Joey" tag and go with the more manly "Joe". His answer? "TEE HEE HEE, no I like Joey..giggle giggle".

The host laughed out loud, and I felt stupid for having asked.
