Not for the squeamish.

Check out the ballet at about 2:15.

The worst one I saw was during a Bill Elliot pit stop (a crew member died from his injuries). As I recall, it affected me like a driver dying. I think that incident lead to the pit road speed limit.

I was supposed to be there.

The clip of Gordon and Mikey getting together on pit road always pisses me off.

It was during green flag pit stops. Mikey was just ahead of Gordon nearing the entrance to pit road when Mikey slowed to allow Jr to get in line when he decided at the last moment to pit. Because Mikey slowed, Gordon drove to the inside of him to continue towards pit road.
Mikey didn't like that so when he got near his pit he just drove into the side of the 24 car sending it into the pit stalls.

After the race Mikey bitched about Gordon causing that accident, saying he had the right to drive into the 24 car because he shouldn't have been beside him... ( lol idiot )

Since Mikey slowed to allow Jr to get in line, he created the situation that put another car beside him, so he should have slowed and waited for Gordon proceed instead of running him into the pit stalls risking serious injury to a crewman.

Mikey: jackass

Pretty sure this was the incident that made nascar implement the single file rule on pit road.

That was ugly. Those guys don't make enough to be putting their lives on the line.

Mikey is an idiot, but Gordon is supposed to yield there. Look again and you'll see it's Gordon who drives into the side of MW. He isn't even supposed to be inside of a driver with an earlier pit stall.

That resulted in pit road changes. The speed limit was imposed.
Then colored circles on the windshield, can't remember the colors used. One color pitted first, then the other color next lap. For some reason that didn't work. Maybe the leader had the wrong color and had to pit second after half the field did?
Then they started the odd/even. Odd numbered positions pitted first, IOW the leader, then next lap the even numbered positioned.
Then lead lap cars first time around.

Why should Gordon slow down entering pit road just because Mikey slowed to allow Jr to get in line?

There was no single file rule on pit road back then.

yah, but common sense should prevail. Gordon screwed up just as badly as MW. Jeff should have braked and let him get to his stall. Think about it. If you want to screw another driver, just get inside him on pit road and stay there so he can't pit. The guy on the inside is 100% responsible to know where those in front of him are pitting. Cheap move by Jeff, bad reaction by MW.

Mikey created the situation that put another car beside him. Gordon did the right thing by moving to the inside to continue entering pit road. I doubt there are many in the Cup series that wouldn't have done the same.

"Hold on everyone. Jr has decided to pit at the last moment, so everyone entering pit road slow down and let him line, ok?"

The point is a car was beside him because of a stupid move on his part, and he drove that car into the pit stalls. Cheap move or not, nothing justifies that.

So....you're one of those people who can't admit they didn't understand something and were wrong???

OK. :p

During the Southern 500 at Darlington, South Carolins, car owner and crew chief Paul McDuffie and mechanic Charles Sweatlund, both of Atlanta, Georgia, and Joe Taylor of Charlotte, North Carolina, an official inspector for NASCAR, were killed.

The cars of Roy Tyner of Red Springs, North Carolina, and Bobby Johns of Miami, Florida, locked bumpers about one-fourth of the way through the race. Johns' car rolled onto its roof and slid upside-down into the concrete pit will. Parts of the smashed wall flew into the occupied pit area behind the wall, killing three, and injuring three other men.

John Blaylock, Ralph Byers, and R. M. Vermillion, Jr., all from Atlanta, Georgia, were hospitalized in Florence, South Carolina. Blaylock was in critical condition; the other two men were in serious condition. Neither of the two drivers were injured. Joe Lee Johnson, the driver of the car owned by McDuffie and serviced by the Atlanta crew members, withdrew from the race.

I believe that was Ricky Rudd in the 5 that day, lost it on pit road and a guy named Mike Rich was killed. A crew member for the 9 car.
I can't figure out why I remember that so well but I was kinda new to the sport at the time and it had a real effect on me.
