Jeff is now 38 points behind Junior for second place in the points race after Michigan. That is roughly 8 spots or so at Sonoma, not factoring in any bonus points. With Jeff's great history of success at the road courses and Junior's less than stellar history there, I think it is entirely possible that Jeff will be in second place after this next weekend. I don't expect him to gain much on Matt for first this week, but it is quite possible also.

Jeff is verry, verry. good at road courses. I think he could move into 2nd next week. But a lot can happen in a road track he could lose a spot or two.

I think it could be next week :bounce: Sears Point has been good to Jeff in the past, I like his chances

Next week, but Daytona is on the verge where they both do well.

A good question.I honestly thought Jeff would have passed Jr. by now.The summer's road courses will help,no doubt about it.

I think that he could get it done this week, ive been expecting junior to falter eventually. Im pretty surprised the junior has hung in this long actually. Road courses aren't his strong suit, but junior did hire ron fellows to drive the 1 car this week so maybe he gave him some pointers

In all honesty, I don't expect Junior to do very well at all on the road courses, but then he has surprised me up to this point with his ability to points race. The hot summer months have a way of "separating the wheat from the chaf" so to speak.

That being said, I do think Kenseth is the real deal. He is relatively new to Winston Cup, but he is 30 years old and much more mature than many drivers are in their 3rd or 4th year in cup. He knows how to minimize the damage at his weaker tracks and just about dominate at his favorites. That pit crew he has is good for probably 15-25 points every week too.

I believe that Jeff Gordon will take 2nd place in the points & really make up some ground on Matt Kenseth, however,I still see Matt finishing around 8th position IMO!
Dale Earnhardt Jr. will be tough at Daytona(of course-lol),I think Matt will do fairly well there, this points battle could really get interesting very quickly, don't forget about Bobby Labonte,Fatback McSwain & that #18 crew with 6 Top 3's in last 7 races & 4th in points just -54 points back of Jeff Gordon,if Bobby keeps up those finishes for the rest of the season then this might well be Bobby's 2nd Cup to match His Brother;s Terry's 2 Cups,JMO!
